Vampire Killer? Tell me about it!

So this is Castlevania but isn't. Okey, it picked my curiosity.

I'm really surprised at the development. So as far as I know this was the original idea of CV and the NES game was handled by a secondary team that somehow was released first. They share the same music, the same intro and even the same sprites!

However they seem very different. Vampire Killer is very metroid-like, isn't it?

Anyone willing to teah me about this or point me towards some good info?
