This is a game that I just picked up recently. Someone at work brought the game in for us to play at lunch. It was a lot of fun so I got my own copy. I plan to check out other games by Days of Wonder.

I usually play card games with the family: Pitch, Rummy, Black Queen, Hearts, Skip Bo, Phase 10, Quiddler, Set. Other favorites are: Banagrams, Rummikub, and Sequence.

I got my younger siblings (9, 12, and 15) into playing Carcassonne. They loved it. I also have Catan. I'd buy more board game, but they wouldn't get any use.

However, I have had a tradition for a while where I give my younger siblings over at my Dad's (14 and 15) board games I find for Christmas. Probably going to drop carcassonne their way this year.

First off, if you still play card games, give Tichu a try. You can play it with a regular deck of cards if you have four Jokers and are willing to deface them. It's my favorite trick taking card game that's accessible (as opposed to Bridge, which has an alarmingly imposing learning curve).

Keep in mind that Days of Wonder is just the publisher. SmallWord is another hit that they publish, but it's not much like Ticket to Ride, though it does have territory building. Alan R. Moon is the designer of Ticket, and another area control game that he made that I enjoy is Elfenland. You might enjoy something like Brass. Or for a more mainstream approach (something you're more likely to find locally), definitely try Carcassonne if you haven't before. Hell, you'd probably enjoy Settlers too, and you can find that just about anywhere with board games.

I've played some of the Euro games like Ticket to Ride and Carcassone, but I also like war games like Empire of the Sun and Third Reich. Never played a tabletop RPG before, though.

My father-in-law actually has a bunch of those same games and gave me one. On the spine it reads 3M Brand Bookshelf Games. The ones I've seen are all from the 1960s.

They are 3M bookshelf games, produced in the 1960s. I have five of them. The most popular one I have that you may recognize is Acquire.

I thought they were 3ms. What are the other titles? I have almost all of the AH bookshelf games, but I do not own any 3ms that look like those.

Twixt is excellent. I just got a copy of it and I guess I havent seen it on the shelf. It is a game that needs a reprint. Oh Wah Ree ever really sat right with me. I have always viewed it as just a four player Mancala.

Breakthru sounds interesting. I am going to keep an eye out for it.

Boardgames are slowly creeping into my geeky circles. Now you see some Carcassones, Bangs and the like which is good. Unfortunatedly the clubs focus only in light games, it's a bit dissapointing to see a convention where there's nothing heavier than Settlers*.

But I can't complain. I have other three friends I can play with every weekend and plenty of other ocassiones to bring my games. And they have a couple games of their own too! :)

I'm also registered in BGG but I don't like it very much.

*Game I have yet to play. For real. I haven't played Carcassone either.
