I used to name my characters ridiculous shit like ass or cunt. I remember playing through Final Fantasy VII once and naming every character a curse word. Besides that, I would use my real name sometimes.
Now I always use the default names. If there is no default name, I will use Inazuma for male characters and Midori for female.
What do you name your in game characters / save files?

Default names in some games, I use aliases like the Forlorn Drifter, The Last Horseman, Hex, Lucky Luke, Josie William (What my dad wanted to name me, first and middle name. Mom wouldn't let him.) and others. I like sad or drifter names, just cause. I like to name characters in game besides my own after my friends or their aliases, so there is a hell of a lot of Trevors in my games.

I usually try to name the character whatever the name of the character in the story is. It's easier to keep things straight when trying to recall parts of the game to friends.

In OoT I named link VADER in all caps once. Made the game quite amusing.
For pokemon I name the character something that sounds like a pokemon related. Syth, Charis, and Thundar are names I've used.

Painis Cupcake, Qirex, Pvt. Ryan, or just plain Ryan.
