What do you name your in game characters / save files?
Re: What do you name your in game characters / save files?
I usually keep the defaults if they're available. If I have to choose a name, it's usually just on a whim and it's different nearly every time. I just started Persona the other day and gave the main character the name Richtor Belmont with the nickname Alucard just because I was in a Castlevania kind of mood.

I'm a big fan of the default names. In games like PSO or Monster Hunter 3, where you are forced to name your character, I like naming them after favorite black metal bands like 'Bathory', 'Burzum', 'Gorgoroth' or 'Xasthur'.

I just use my real name when there's no default, and the default otherwise. In games with less than 6 letters for names I have to use some sort of mispelling of my name, which is 6 letters long. When I was a kid, a lot of my characters were called 'Me', which is exactly as sad as it sounds.

Sometimes I use my real name because it's only three letters. For RPG's where my characters name may come up in conversation a lot I occasionally make up a fantasy sounding name.
90% of the time though it's usually Fuck or a variation of. Many old school RPG's have had a party consisting of Fuck, Shit, Tits, and Dick.

Default or "Luke".
On Actraiser however I use "loin chop", as I like when the angel calls me "Sirloin chop".

I usually keep the default names if there's none I usually use Gnash. Unless the character already has a name but it's not given like in The Legend of Zelda. I feel funny giving Link any other name.
Thanks everyone...

When I was a kid I'd name characters after my school friends. Then when I got older I stuck with just using default names. In games that don't have a default I have a slew of stock names I use. And these days the only games that don't have default names fall into specific franchises. So I have a default for Dragon Quest and a different default for SMT. And then for individual games with no default (like Dragon Age or MMOs) I have a selection of stock names I use.

Re: What do you name your in game characters / save files?
I used to try to use my real name, but I ran into something I found very annoying. Most console games, particularly older ones, have either a 5 or 10 character limit for names. My name is 11 letters long. So I usually use the "official" name.
