If you mean Recca, see here.

Just to expand, the carts from either the same game in another language, or a game that uses similar chips is used. The cart will need the right kind of memory mapper and if it is an RPG it will have to have the save circuitry and battery on it. So yes, the original board has its program chips pulled off and replaced by hand. The label is removed from the shell as well most of the time. There is someone making NES cart shells though and of course people are trying to work on making new circuit boards so that things don't have to be cannibalized. Although taking a Japanese copy of an RPG and converting it into a fan translated English version is a bit more ethical as far as things go.

If you look at Nesreproductions you can click on the circuit boards next to the available games and it will tell you what donor games are suitable. I sent a Jurassic Park cart in for my Recca.

I posted at the bottom of page 2. I have no big desire to have the box. The cart alone will do me fine. I like NES games naked on a shelf.

I wonder if that Dragon Quest I and II has the glitch the translations have.
Thanks everyone...

The only place I found that makes carts is Retro Zone, but they don't make any in the regular gray color :/

Ziggy's a good guy. All the SNES JP games in my Backloggery? All repros from Ziggy from the SFC games I snagged off eBay.

Bingo. I think I told you already, Hobie, but forever one else to hear, I've been working on making SNES "repro" boards so that donor carts don't have to be used. I like that wording though, games don't have to be cannibalized.

Getting the actual game and modifying it with the fan translation is perfect (for example - get an actual Final Fantasy 5 Super Famicom cart and put the English translation on it, instead of destroying a copy of a game from existence). Some people still don't like it, but it's the SAME game, so I don't see a problem. It'll just be in a different language. And if you save the original mask ROM, you can always restore the cart to its original state.

There's a good reason why. It's probably a counter measure for people trying to pass of repros as the real deal.

PS: Thanks for the all the kind words, guys!

Indeed, people that try to pass off repros as the real thing, especially to the unwashed masses who don't know any better, are fucking assholes.

I've beaten Bahamut Lagoon and Seiken Densetsu 3. I'm at the last boss of Romancing SaGa 3 but I need to grind more. I'm tantilizingly close to being able to kill him. I haven't started SMT1, 2, Gun Hazard, FE4, or Terranigma.
