Screw the default name "Jack"! It's my (virtual) life!CFFJR wrote:I'm waiting for Opa Opa to post in here so I can finally ask him what name he uses for Harvest Moon, since there's a little bit of a fan argument about what's "official".
I just use my own name.
The names for my animals are usually:
Horse- either Lopez or Stupid.
Dog- Idiot/Retard (interchangeable).
Chickens- I currently have Alpha, Marv, Snakes, and Mr. Smith.
Cows- There's always one named Bessy. Other than that I usually use more Spanish names (Juanita, Pedro, etc.)

I always use the default name if possible.
I don't like coming up with names for stuff, and it feels really weird to use my own...
If I have to it's usually something silly or a random combination of letters/numbers.

If a game's not very story driven I'll usually use my name and then names of friends for other characters. In Harvest Moon I always name my dog "Barf" because I frickin love Spaceballs.

I never had to name a character before Zelda on the NES. I had just seen Robocop in theaters and I figured why not; my Zelda save was Robocop. I didn't really associate the save name with anything at all (I was only 9).
After that I just kept the save file as the main character as that's who I was playing so, why not~

Ah, so you're a rogue then, that's cool.
I stick to Jack. I like it and I can't accept anything else for my own character, heh. Though I've met a lot of (very vocal) fans who insist that the default name is actually Pete. Crazy bastards, the lot of them.
Its funny to see insults in naming your animals though. I do the same thing, heh. I also tend to give them food related names, like naming a cow Steak.

If the game has default names, I stick to them.
For games without them, I use my real name, Charles. But since many older games only give you four characters for names, I usually used "Chaz." I think in the first Phantasy Star I just used "Save" though.

Re: What do you name your in game characters / save files?
I alway used to call my RPG characters silly purile names. It used to make me smile but it the problem that when I was reading about the game on the net, the articles would always refer to the characters by their default names. I wouldnt have a clue who they were taking about.
When I played Twilight Princess I just stuck to Link and Epona, since FaggotBalls wouldnt fit.
If the name is purely used for the save file then I just us CP, same for 3 char high score tables.

Re: What do you name your in game characters / save files?
I used isiolia for a lot of them. I originally got it from the random name generator in Neverwinter Nights for my first character. Used the first name over on another NWN character, but modified the last name to Marna.
What really cemented it was when I was creating my FFXI account. I tried several other names first, but they were all taken. Wound up using it for forums n' the like on FFXI related boards...but after so many years of using it, I've gotten used to it in general, so I use it for a lot of profiles n' such too.
For games where it doesn't seem to fit, I may use something else. Fallout 3/NV, and Mass Effect games are Rhynn, since I felt that fit the sci-fi sort of atmosphere better. Others are mostly one-off...Pokemon SoulSilver is Claire, my Malkavian playthrough of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is Alice.
Games with default names I'll usually just stick to those.
