Just to be clear, when I was talking about game size I was talking about shorter and demo games. Like RAGE on my iPad is installed at 1.5GB or so. Thats larger than a full gameucbe game, games like RE and Eternal Darkness, this is why I am complaining. I dont see all the need for such a huge size.

Am not talking about the size of Gears of War 3 and the like because its understandable. But shorter games and demos make me scratch my head

Again, the majority of that space is used for graphics an textures, if you have a demo using all of the textures in the game, it's still going to be pretty big. Also, there are quite a few games where the lite/demo/trial version contains the full game, and when you buy the game it unlocks it. I'm not sure if there are many on iOS devices, but I know there are quite a few on other platforms.

Compared to how much space the actual Rage game apparently takes up (according to number on wikipedia), 1.5GB is tiny. here if you wanted to read it yourself.

According to that, the uncompressed version of Rage is one terabyte, the compressed version is 150GB, and even swapping in low res textures it's only barely able to fit on a 25GB Blu-ray. The PC version is possibly going to have a high res texture pack as a download later.

I'd suspect that, as mentioned, this is due to the technology used. Carmack is using something he dubs megatextures in id Tech 5, and though the iOS Rage spinoff doesn't use the full engine, it does use that tech (as does Enemy Territory: Quake Wars). The absolutely massive space that Rage is likely the result of that, given that the megatextures in Quake Wars were apparently about 3GB apiece.

I downloaded the iPhone version of Rage instead of "Rage HD" just because it was smaller. I have a 16GB phone, but 650MB for a iPhone app is pretty damn large. I guess they just don't expect someone with "only" 8GB to be downloading such huge apps.

A have a few other games I thought were ridiculously large at ~300MB!
