Prof. Layton - London Life RPG

Post by HellHammer »

"Professor Layton and the Last Specter includes a separate RPG known as 'London Life' co-developed by Brownie Brown. 'London Life' is touted to run for over 100 hours in gameplay."

I'm curious to see how many people have heard of this 'game within a game', apparently some kind of life-sim RPG by Brownie Brown, of Mother 3 fame.
It's out next month and only after seeing screenshots in Nintendo Power did I (total)recall hearing about it back a couple years ago when it was released in Japan.

I haven't been able to find much info about it outside of the no-go on an EU localization, and a few bad quality youtube videos of Japanese gameplay.

But still I'm pretty excited it's being released in English! Anyone else interested?

I'll be getting the Last Specter, so I'll end up playing this a bit most likely. Hopefully it's an RPG I can actually get into.

Hi Hellhammer,

You better believe I was hooked by the London Life from the first rumors! After Layton 4 came out in Japan, I searched Youtube [probably would have been smarter to search Japanese video sites] over and over to catch videos of this Mother 3-meets-Animal Crossing bonus and only ever found the same 2 or 3 one-minute videos of low quality. As I remember reading about it, from the earliest it was understood to be a semi-beta for a stand-alone game down the road. So I was pretty bummed when, at the L5 conference after the 3DS's debut in '10, it was shown as a 3DS title with a completely different art style under the moniker of 'Fantasy Life'. contemporaneous article

But the upside is that the bonus will be localized for the US afterall, and that's a fine consolation!

I'm really excited for the new Layton game. I was going to buy it regardless, but this is just icing on the cake! :D
