And yet you, class traitor that you are (yeah, I know, I realised now you're not a Republican, ignore that remark), support the political party that wants to lessen regulations on businesses, rebalance tax to give the rich tax breaks, remove your ability to unionise, cut social programs, and reduce your personal security. Well done there. We have a similar party in UK, they're called the Conservative party. Socially they're no where near as right wing as the Republicans, but fiscally they are, and a working class person voting Conservative would be considered the biggest mug on the planet over here.Jmustang1968 wrote:I am apart of the fucking working class. I see the amount of tax dollars taken from my paycheck and go to people to sit and do nothing.
You're willing to lie and say people will give freely to charities, yet you question why people would be motivated at work without the profit motive. Disingenuous much?Jmustang1968 wrote:But in socialism, what is to motivate people to work hard, and be productive? When they see they can do the bare minimum and get by? Where is their reward? Everyone ticks differently and have different things that motivate them. Money is that currency that can be a reward for work and thus can be used by that person to give them what gratification they see fit. Be it collecting video games, financial and family security, given freely to charity, or to go on vacation seeing the world etc... I dont want to force someone to be charitable by the government, but to be given of free will.
Pride. Self-Respect. Dignity. These are the motivating factors to being a good worker. My closest friend is a career for severely mentally disabled people. My sister is currently in university training to be a psychiatrist. My dad (until he retired) was a very capable and experienced mechanic. My aunt is a trained chef specialising in French and Italian food. NONE of these people chose their jobs for the money, they chose their job because it's what they're most passionate about, just like I wanted to be a lab analyst. Originally I wanted to work in research, medical/DNA research, but then I moved my focus to criminal forensics. I'm a trained chemist and CSI. I've been to university twice, and have a diploma in both Computer Science and Forensic Science. I would have a Chemistry degree as well, but my health forced me to drop out before I finished. I can do blood analysis, crime scene analysis etc. and considering the importance of the work, it's not especially well paid compared to research which pays a 6 figure salary. I didn't pick that career for the money, I picked it to make a difference, because it was my passion. It's saddening that I can't do that job any more but not once was the amount of money I'd earn a deciding factor in the job I pick.
I can respect the Libertarian view for social ideals. But to be fair, Libertarian and Republican ideals are very similar when it comes to fiscal ideals though. Still fair enough, you don't support the Republicans.Jmustang1968 wrote:See I am not a republican, I am most closely a libertarian, but not necessarily adhere to everything they generally believe in, but that most accurately describes me. Keep the government out of my personal life and dont make moral decisions for me.
The thing is, under a socialist system, these people are hated too. If I heard about someone illegally claiming benefits I'd report them instantly. Most people here are respectful of the unemployed and disabled to are trying to find work or find some way to contribute. I despite my inability to work, claim Job Seekers, not Disability. It's my belief that if I could find a data entry job, or something along those lines, where I could work from home. Something that if I have a migraine and can't work that day, I can make up the time at 4am when my medication caused insomnia has me up for no reason (like today, it's 2:38am now). I will work... if I can. I hate people who abuse the system, it undermines the whole purpose of socialism. From each according to his/her ability, to each according to his/her needs. If you have the ability to give back... you give back.Jmustang1968 wrote:There are some people who genuinely need help or a little help to get back on their feet to recover from a major event. However, there are those swathes you talk about who are lazy and stupid and take advantage of the system.
Maybe that's true, but I've spoken to people in USA with my condition and it's bankrupted them just to get treatment. They've gone through massive legal battles just to prove they need medicaire and then they've had big restrictions on what they can get with it.Jmustang1968 wrote:The more people think they are guaranteed things, the more entitled they feel and expect everyone to take care of them when they dont prepare. There is a lack of accountability in this country I will agree. Instead of using money to secure things like health care, saving for a rainy day etc, they want to spend it on luxuries they cannot afford and then expect others to pay for their emergencies. They do it because they know they can.
People with debilitating illnesses like you do get treated over here believe it or not. One of the big problems we have with healthcare cost is medicaid and medicaire and how it is implemented and with the ridiculous cost burden of malpractice lawsuits. A person on medicaire can go in for a procedure and it will cost the Dr. say 200$. When they submit it to medicaire, they are told that you will get 100$ for this. How do you think they recover their money? They charge those that are insured more to cover their losses.
Universal healthcare is good in theory, but you do have things like long waits (maybe for organ donors and such which is understandable). You wouldnt have to wait til Nov 9th over here to get your next physician visit.
I'm honestly frustrated with the capitalist system, and I don't understand how it's supposed to work. It really just seems to me that the whole system relies on everyone being greedy and even as a kid I always used to think it was senseless.
One of the questions I used to ask as a kid is:
Why do investors in business only fund things that makes profits? They already have so much money that they'll never need to worry about it again, so why not fund things they actually care about. Why don't businessmen ever build massive themeparks, or pay a film studio to make a film. No, they always thow money at whatever will give them the greatest returns... why? If I was rich I'd buy the rights to Firefly from FOX and pay for them to make a second season. I'd buy the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog and get them to make a 3D game that doesn't suck. I'd pay to have a big rollercoaster built in my garden so I could ride it whenever I wanted... why is it the only celebrity that ever did these kinds of things was Michael Jackson. Are all the others just money making robots or something?
