I can totally see where you're coming from with all the American stereotypes, but I don't agree with the whole way more Christians than atheists thing. I live in the village of Fort Plain. It is a small town in NY. Easily 90% of the people could be classified as rednecks and trailer trash. A hell of a lot of them live off unemployment, disability, etc. and do nothing with their lives. You characterize small towns and backwards people with being Christians. I would have to disagree. Ours is a primarily atheist and non-practicing "Christian" town. In fact, the church I attend has had to merge with two others, and there are still barely enough people to keep it open. What would seem odd to you is that a fair amount of the more educated people around here are Christian. My science teacher is probably atheist, but I'm pretty sure my one last year was agnostic. As far as "one nation under God" goes, I'd say it's more of a tradition now. We're not going to change our national anthem to please the minority that are offended by it. If I didn't agree with that line, I wouldn't say it.

British Literature is a required course in our high schools, at least in Missouri. And we are far from the most xenophobic nation out there. Multiculturalism has been getting more and more popular here with time.

That's nice to know, but what about ancient cultures, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians etc. do you learn about them? Do you learn about the French Revolution? The Spanish Inquisition? The Jin Dynasty of China? The formation and collapse of the Ottoman Empire? The absorbtion of the North Caucasus into the Russian Empire? The advances of the Renaissance? etc...

USA was once a British colony and you speak English, it takes the least effort to learn English Literature and even then I bet you learn nothing but Shakespeare, Dickins, Orwell and the two Bronté's right. If I'm wrong great, I'd love to be wrong here and to find that actually all forms of literature and history are respected and taught, but your entertainment media seems to claim otherwise.

They prop up sports like Basketball, Baseball and NFL which no-one outside USA gives a shit about whilst ignoring international sports like Football which they simply don't understand.

Nothing. But when you have things called the "World Series" which is an annual sports event where the American League (USA) and the National League (USA) compete to see who's the best in baseball... and no-one outside USA even takes part, that's when you look exceptionally arrogant. When we play the "World Cup" in football, practically every country in the world takes part.

They disrespect other peoples media, expecting us to buy hollywood blockbusters but remaking every foreign film and TV show because they're convinced they can do them better, which they never do.

Hollywood creates the best movies, from what I've seen. If it weren't so, foreign countries wouldn't buy our movies, they'd watch their own. And we don't remake every good foreign movie. And remakes are not exclusive to the US; Thailand has their own version of The Fugitive (or maybe it was the Philippines), and then there's always Turkish Star Wars.

OK, fair enough, there are some awful remakes out there like Turkish Star Wars, but USA still disrespects other media. In USA you only seem to watch TV in English. The very concept of going to French, German or Italian film in those languages is laughable to most Americans. The concept of subtitles seems alien and god forbid you actually know another language. The only thing that seems to be the exception is Animé. Even some of USA's best loved shows are remakes, hell you even remake English shows and they're not even in a foreign language. Stanford & Son is a perfect example. It's a remake of the British TV show Steptoe & Son and seems to have completely missed the point. It's lost it's dry wit and self-depricating humour and instead made the main characters black just to put in race-based canned comedy and that's considered a classic. I once saw the American remake of Red Dwarf... that was depressing.

To top it all off, they're rediculously, even offensively Christian saying things like "God bless America" as if they're the only people in the world who are worth considering.

Americans are concerned first and foremost with their own nation. Pretty much every nation is like that.

I have never met a single Christian who expected non-Christians to respect Jesus, although I admit that doesn't have to be representative of all of them. And it's inevitable that Christians and atheists will collide; their ideas about life and how it should be lived are in direct opposition.

You are wrong about the scientists and the politicians, but I actually agree with you about our news-media. In fact, over 50% of people here are distrustful of it.

I've seen scientific papers come out of America claiming gay people can be cured, dinosaurs are only 4,000 years old, and radiometric dating doesn't work. Look up "Patriot University", it's sickening what gets past some American peer review journals and it means all journals now have to contend with being constantly scrutinised because there are people out there that'll publish anything.

You are atheist I presume? All the Christians I know don't hate atheists. In fact I'd say it's generally an atheist thing to claim that Christians are dicks to them all the time. My best friend is atheist. His mentality is pretty much that his way is superior and everyone else are fools, nevermind the fact that he was Christian beforehand. Sure, I know Christians who think theirs is the only way, but they don't go around shoving it in people's faces like most atheists I've seen do.

Really. I didn't think he was that bad. He did keep rubbing his nose a lot though. I felt the need to hand him a tissue. And he does have some good point and good ideas. I think he's just really passionate which, admittedly, does come off as a little...off, at some points.
