Recommended Android apps?

App killer. Saves your batteries so much.

Soundhound. Recognize any song. I even got an underground band that did not show up anywhere on google to come up.

Various soundboards. Always good for a laugh or some fun.

I have apps that show a Majora's Mask Clock and a Heart Health Bar for the Battery. Fun for me.

MP3 music download. Free music on your phone.

All the free ones I have.

so far I've installed:

Double Twist - a media player that's better than the pre-installed one.
I Heart Radio - an awesome internet radio hub with tons of great stations.
Juice Protector - a battery saver thingy that gets high praise.
Netflix - obvious.

I am curious to what comes out of this topic. I am planning on getting an android tablet in the near future (possibly next month) and would love to have some new things to play with. All I know about are emulators and Double Twist - but you already knew that one Noise. I know Racket has had an android phone for a while, maybe he can chime in.

Double Twist on the droid is nice, but the PC version didn't work well for me. I just have too much music which slowed it waaay down, and I also found the tagging and organization still a little behind most other media options.

So I'm either gonna just use iTunes with iTunes agent or switch back to WMP as my PC side agent and for syncing to the phone.

There are a bunch of fun games for Android, and a lot of exclusive titles were announced at TGS this year [El Shaddai, Disgaea, etc.] and most will be free-to-play, too. Not to mention that Square Enix is throwing their hat into the Android ring by bringing over remakes of Dragon Quest Monsters, Final Fantasy Legends, and a re-release of Chrono Trigger, which may wind up being an exclusive, as well. As for right now, Kairosoft is now releasing all their games on Android before their respective iOS releases, and they have some pretty fun and addictive games: http://kairopark.jp/android/en/
Tux Rider was released for Android a while back, and is a personal favorite of mine. Replica Island is a fun 2D platformer exclusive where you play as the Andy the Android himself! Not to mention that there are a bunch of emulators available for Android. You're going to have fun with your new phone, noise. If I may ask, which one did you buy?

oh I got the LG Optimus V. I've had cellphones since the late 90's, and never once signed up for a contract. I'm still grandfathered into the old Beyond Talk plan for Virgin Mobile. Which means I have an awesome Android phone and I pay $25/mo for 300 mins (way more than I use in a month -- I hate talking on the phone) and UNLIMITED text and data.

My LG Rumor Touch worked just fine -- but my iPod broke, so I figured instead of buying a new mp3 player and carry that around along with my phone I'd just upgrade my phone to a Droid, and let my wife have my Rumor since it was better than her current cell.

At any rate, not sure how much gaming I'd do on this as it's pretty much all touch-screen. Angry Birds is fine and all. But at the same time, something like Disgaea might work really well on such a format.

Pandora/DI Radio - because I'm to lazy to make a playlist.
IMDB - to solve arguements at the bar on who was is what movie.
Google Voice - if your phone does not have visual voice mail already.
Amazon apps - so you can get free apps daily.
J player/Mobo - streams and videos.
Barnacle - make your phone a wireless hotspot

PCE EMU - It's $5, but you can play Turbo Grafx games, nuff said.

If you're into eff'n with your gear, root it and get Cyanogen. XDA-developers has all the info for that (and get the XDA app).

I like Twicca instead of the official Twitter app. It works way better. So I recommend that.

Tablets seem like they would be fantastic for turn based strategy and adventure games. I know folks are working on a port of FreeCiv for Android. There's already a ScummVM port.
