NES Games on AV Famicom

Post by jeapostrophe »

I'd like to get an AV Famicom to play some Famicom games, but I don't want to have 2 NES systems. (Plus I prefer top-loading, but want AV inputs.)

Stone Age Gamer sells something that does this:

http://stoneagegamer.com/nestofamicomco ... 0-pin.aspx

But there is a disclaimer that it may not work with an AV Famicom. Does anyone know what doesn't work? Or another technique to getting this job done?

Thanks in advance,

Jay

I believe that adapter has a grounding issue, hence why its dirt cheap, not sold out and why stoneage gamer sells it (no offense to them but most of their merchandise is cheap, low grade garbage).

There are much better adapters out there if you look. Popular ones include the Honeybee, FC Harmonizer and AD3 NES to Famicom adapters. Expect to pay at least $25 for anything quality.

I've got this converter working on my Famicom (which has a HVC-CPU-GPM-02). According to the disclaimer, this converter MAY not work with my system or an AV Famicom for that matter. Well, I figured out a way how to: Be sure to insert the cart+converter all the way down. After doing, just slightly pull up on the cartridge (I use the eject slider, only going up to the arrows on the side) and then power on. It works! I learned this from a fellow over at Famicom World. The reason being, the pins on the converter are a tad short, so when you insert it all the way in, the pins don't make contact. Slightly lifting the cartridge back up, reconnects the pins to the teeth - brilliant!

*note: this converter is a Yobo brand

The one Stone Age Gamer is selling is a Yobo brand.

Works great with the trick I mentioned - I just played Super Mario Bros. 2 on my Famicom for about 1.5 hrs straight.
