What was your best generation for video game console's

Post by mas »

I was just thinking of asking what was the best generation video game console's that you guy's enjoyed the most. For me it's a toss up between the sega genesis/snes console war's and the ps1/n64/sat wars. I know the dreamcast would also be needed in the ps1/n64/saturn wars but the dreamcast came out in late of 1999 and the other systems came out in 95 and in 96. I just think between those two generation's the manufactures like nintendo and sega would trash each other in commercials and then sony would make cool ad's and commercials also. The console generation that we have today for me does not compare as to the 90's generation.

16-bit era. It was the first major jump in technology and finally bridged the gap between home consoles and arcade games. 2d games reached their peak here, even before we had the Sega Saturn. Just about every genre was well represented and there were tons of quality games on the market. Games like Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man X 2 and 3(C4 chip) and Starfox really showed what 16-bit technology was still capable of too if the industry weren't in such a rush to go 3D

I don't see how this differs much from this thread we just had:

My answer is pretty much the same, I want to say "the 90's". So narrowing it down, the 16bit era for the most part for me.

After spending more time with my Genesis I'm inclined to say 16-bit. There was just so much creativity and tons of options in every genre. Also 2D arcade games were able to make the transition to consoles with only a few lost frames of animation and maybe some sound tweaks.
Older. Not wiser.

The 16-bit generation was excellent but I enjoyed the 32/64-bit generation (N64, SS, PS1) more.
