Can CD-RW's work on Sega Saturn?

Post by Anthony817 »

Like the title says, can the system read backups with these particular disc's?

I just want to know before I try it. I don't want to damage the laser.

Thanks, I figured so but wanted to make sure. I just used my last 3 discs on mine last night, and only have CD-RW's here. I know some people got them to work on their Dreamcast's but I think you had to tune the potentiometer on the lens, and I don't want to try that on my Saturn.

i maybe wrong, but why would you want to?
You have to understand that CD-RWs required a stronger laser intensity than a typical pressed disc or CD-R. Also, the CD-RW mod can hurt the laser over time'

Only reason I can think of is if you develop homebrew.

Mh, that is interesting. I already recalibrated my laser on my Dreamcast once because of a bleem game throwing the laser out of whack. I'll bet my Dreamcast could read these disc's now. I already burnt a game to cd-rw a while back for testing, I'll locate it and tell you if it works. Still kind of iffy if I want to do that to my Saturn, it is a July 1995 model 1 Saturn, so it is pretty old.

Dude i would just leave it as it and use cdr to make the thing last longer. My saturn is from that era and still going good for me, as long you dont stress the laser too much you still have alot of life left.

THIS
Even if a CD-RW could work on a console, not a good idea. Any disc reader will work harder tracking the data. The original disc is the best, this is not from a pirating ethical standpoint but which causes less long term wear on a console.

Original Pressed Disc > CD-R > CD-RW

Huh, glad to know this I guess. Luckily I just bought another 100 pack of high quality CD-R's so that works for me.
