Too bad you're terrible at it. You're an example of somebody with very little knowledge but a lot of words. You don't live here. You don't know how our system works. I've never seen participation trophies in my life here. Also, just because our rating systems are different doesn't make them inferior.

Perhaps you should take some anthropology classes and learn how cultures work and differ.

When you are done being so high and mighty, it might be worth mentioning that the UK is only MARGINALLY better than the US in education in 2 of the 3 categories that are scored by the OECD. We rank higher than you in reading. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog ... ce-reading)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

That's a funny one, tell it again. No seriously, I'd love to hear that one again. American's are better at spelling than the British. Wow.

I'll believe that when I see it. Sorry, but any country where the average person doesn't understand why the phrase "I could care less", is wrong and meaningless, doesn't get to boast about it's literacy.
dsheinem wrote:Also, I have a hard time believing that you are personally such a bright young lad when you are launching an argument about the "facticity" of how a rating system should work and when you make assumptions about cultural attitudes, education, and politics in a country that you have elsewhere indicated you don't really understand. Ironically, you seem to not be allowing for cultural differences when making your own over-reaching claims...
I'm being purposely tongue-in-cheek. As for my intelligence, you can believe what you like but I can assure you I have no reason to lie. I'm an extremely intelligent and exceptionally arrogant man who could probably have had the highest grades in the school if I'd tried... naturally I didn't try and have since gone to University twice, and dropped out twice. Hell, if anything my intelligence just indicates how big of a screw up I've been as my ability far outstrips my achievements and I know it. I messed up and have to live with it... without a participation trophy.
dsheinem wrote:On top of all that, I should add that we already have a smart and snarky brit here by the name of Niode who does a much better job making cogent arguments. You may want to check out some of his past posts to see how it is done.
There's always room for another sarcastic self-aggrandising brit on any website.

I should so make those games now.

I've always found the Star Fox series to be rather average. Nowhere near as good as people say. Also, most JRPGs are pretty overrated. And Viewtiful Joe. Also Killzone 2. It was fun, but not amazing. I've never felt any desire to play through it again after I completed the game.

FYI -- "it's" means "it is."

Actually, after reading the book Eats, Shoots and Leaves (written by a British person, BTW), I have a hard time believing you about Britain's superior literacy.

My limited experience with the British education system wasn't particularly good. I went to the equivalent of American public school in England for two years (I think you guys used opposite terms and it was a "private" school). 4-5th grade equivalent.

First, they held me back one year purely based on age. My prior schooling was homeschool, started due to my birthday being a month too late to get into kindergarten in New Jersey. So I did kindergarten at home during the morning, and then went to public preschool >_>

Reading?

They had reading time. I read the entire reading book for my year. Then the next year's, which was as far as the school went.
Then I read all the books on the reading shelf in my classroom. Then they just said to bring in my own books to read for reading time.

My youngest brother, who was the only one of us to actually get taught to read in the British school, was behind the curve on it for years. The only one in the family who never read for leisure because he never learned to enjoy it.

About the only thing they taught me for math was long division...and I had to relearn that when I got back to the 'states because of differences in how work was shown.

I honestly didn't learn a whole lot outside of British history.

I have little doubt that there were better (and worse) schools, but averages have been discussed already here, I believe :D
While I'll freely admit that there are some pretty terrible spelling/grammar mistakes common on the web or to the U.S., I think some denizens of England destroy their native language on a regular basis as well.

Considering your experience with American's seems to be limited to the internet, I wouldn't say you have a very good understanding of the people that live here, or their literacy.

At least Niode is only an ass when it's appropriate. You seem to always be one. Should I now say that everybody from the UK is an arrogant asshole? No, because that is totally not the case.

Seriously, cut the crap.

You are an entire nation of people that spell the word "color" wrong. What more evidence do you need?

Judging from your post, I bet Americans are better at distinguishing the plural form from the possessive form.
