Is the Sega Master system worth owning.
Thanks to everyone for there help with the Sega CD and 32X as I decided to get both and have been enjoying them. Know I am wondering though if I should get the Sega Master system both from a collecting point of view and fun wise. Seeing as it is the only Sega system I do not own. So what are your thoughts is it worth owning. Also I already have a Atari 7800 and a NES though I do not think the NES is working.

It's worth getting. The Wonder Boy games, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, etc all make the console worth picking up.
It's got a lot more to offer than the 32x, and at least as much to offer as the Sega CD. I'd say go for it.
If you have a genesis 1, you can save some money/room and just get the Power Base Converter.

Thanks for the advice but I have a model 2 and Model 1 genesis systems seem to go for about as much as the Master System around here.AppleQueso wrote:It's worth getting. The Wonder Boy games, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, etc all make the console worth picking up.

This is a retro-gaming site, the answer will be a definate yes. You're talking to the people who without hesitation would recommend getting a 3DO because "Crash n Burn" is a damn cool game... hell, give us enough time and we'll find people to argue a case for the Philips CD-i, the Amiga CD32 and the Apple Pippin...
Honestly though, the Master System is fantastic. Some of the games like Enduro Racer, The Ninja and Castle Of Illusion are amongst my first video games ever and I love them to this day. Sure the Master System only had 318 games released for it compared to the NES's 800 games, but it had almost no shovelware in my experience. Looking back, I played bad Mega Drive games, and bad Saturn games as a kid, but I never played a bad Master System game... it's as though they simply don't exist.

Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars is pretty bad.TornadoCreator wrote:This is a retro-gaming site, the answer will be a definate yes. I am going to be the smart-aleck that says yes, it is worth it, if you end up enjoying the system and if it causes you more benefit than consequence.

Meeeh. I didn't care for it when I owned one. I guess if you're into 8-bit stuff you'll enjoy it.

It's not worth it. Get a Genesis model 1 and a power base adaptor, that way you get SMS and Genesis at the same time. SMS has a few good games, but nothing worth buying a whole new system over. In general, most of the great games of that era came out on NES, not SMS. But there's still Alex Kidd in Miracle World.
