Square-Enix announces Final Fantasy X remake for Vita & PS 3

Post by Gamerforlife »

I'm sure different people will have different reactions to this. I would be excited about this if they include some of the extras from the International version, much like how the upcoming Ico/SOTC collection will have the European features included for Ico. I'll probably wanna buy this either way as I'm a shameless Final Fantasy whore. This also begs the question, where the hell is that FF 7 remake?

As I said on another forum, again someone asking why X before VII. X is just upping the Res, adding some AA and maybe tweaking some textures, redoing FFVII is much more work than that.

Yeah, that's true. It's a much cheaper option than remaking FF 7. They would make so much money on a FF 7 remake though. It's just weird that they aren't taken advantage of that

Then again, FF 7 is classic. Maybe it's best left alone rather than have Square-Enix potentially mess it up with a total remake from the ground up. It would have to be at least as good as the Resident Evil remake to make everyone happy

I have no doubt at all that they will remake VII, just wait until they are either hard up for cash, it is there massive safety net.

Also you should change your title, it's not really going to be a remake, just a souped up port.

I really don't think they should touch 7 unless they get the entirety of the original team to do it. FF7 was an achievement of it's time and a lot of it is dated. Something that is already so old and embedded in people's memories is the easiest to screw up regardless of how it actually turns out. Personally as an unrealistic dream I'd like to see them just do a purely aesthetic update. Redo the models and create hd hand drawn backgrounds.

That pretty much describes exactly what I'd want from a remake of VII; leave the core alone, just update the visuals. You don't even need the original team to handle that type of upgrade (but it sure as hell would be time consuming).

Square Enix hasn't been doing too great, but they're not out for the count just yet. While I personally believe a VII remake is inevitable, I don't expect to see it anytime in the near future. As emwearz stated, it can definitely be exploited as a safety net which, given their latest track record, the company needs.

Ok i know ill prolly take some heat from this but honestly final fantasy 10 was my favorite rpg of ALL TIME! Pokemon got me into rpgs but FF10 showed me what a real rpg was all about and omg the characters were great! Time lost tidus or mysterious guardian auron and lovable big bro/intro to the new world wakka! God it makes me want to go out buy a old fat ps2 and a copy and just veg for like 8 hours lol

Btw i know a bunch of people hate it but i love the sphere grid leveling system i was super disappointed it wasnt in 10-2 or 11 but that was a mmo so meh

FFVII was a freaking mess, as was its development. Somehow they produced the right game for the right market at the right time. I'm not saying FFVII is a bad game by any means but a lot of its success was incidental.

So if they ever do re-make it, I don't think it'd be important (or sensible) to get the original team back. Maybe the original producer or director but that'd be about it.

Still I have to admit that when you look at what fans are asking for vs what's being developed to market to them it kinda looks like corporate trolling.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I dunno, where it may lack story-wise (though not really better/worse than VII/VIII IMO), the combat mechanics/etc of X were pretty solid, and fun.

If SE is doing the PS2 remastering thing though, maybe we'll see FFXII Internation Zodiac Job System version released in the US in the same fashion >_>

If this adds the International improvements I'll snag it, otherwise no sale, I wasn't a big enough fan of the original.
