I picked up Legend of the River king for the gbc the other day and was pretty excited to finally try it out. I love fishing games and was always curious about this one since I saw it featured in Nintendo Power years ago.
But when I threw it into my GBA, the game would not load past the natsume screen. I tried the game in the super gameboy, as well as the gc gb player.with the same result. When I finally got the game to start, it would randomly freeze. I have a rom of the game that does the same thing but just figured it might be a bad dump.
This leads me to believe there is some inherent bug in the game. Has anyone else encountered this? Would I have more luck with the standard gb version?

My black label copy works just fine.
You cleaned the game right (solves 95% of all game loading issues)?

Yep, alcohol and a q-tip got it to start up initially. Mine is the black label copy as well. Thanks for the input, maybe I'll try picking up another copy.

That's too bad.
Sometimes games just die, for no logical reason.
I have a copy of Dragon's Revenge (Genesis) that has similar issues (starts up after performing extreme CPR) just to crash microseconds later.
I even tried changing the capacitor in that cart, with no improvement.
The game USED to work and I take very good care of my games. It just gave up on me.
I've never run into a Game Boy game I could get working though. The worst one I have is Space Invaders, which I have to lift up slightly to get a good enough contact to play. But that looks so beat to hell, I'm actually amazed every time it starts up.

Re: Legend of the River King GBC issues
I've had Pokemon Red and Link's Awakening carts that would crash moments after you tried to start a game. There was nothing obviously wrong when looking at the board, I figured they had been dropped just right or had possibly gotten a bad static zap.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I will just have to pick up another copy down the line. Maybe I should just get the regular ass GB version.
