Going away, need game protection tips.

Post by Dr.Dooom »

I know this may have been posted before, but I am in a hurry and have no time to look.

I will be moving away from home for about 2 years to go to school, and must leave my game collection behind. I am probably the assiest person in the universe about the appearence and condition of my games. How do I store these away to fully protect this stuff from things such as yellowing plastic and fading labels? I have a large clear storage bin, but don't feel comfortable just throwing them in there.

Should I store them in Ziplock baggies and suck out the air? I remember reading something over at Nintendoage about a chemical in some brands of baggies that can yellow the labels. Mabey I wrap them in toilet paper and seal them in airtight baggies?

By the way, the person living in the house I leave them in is a VERY heavy smoker, which is why I'm going through all of this to protect my games.

Back in the leaky basement it goes.

Seriously though, as long as they're in the container, and said smoker doesn't open the container and smoke into it, you should be fine. Then again, I live in a non-smoking house, so I'm not really sure of the full effects of it.

Went I left home I just got some plastic tubs from Walmart. The plastic was opaque so no UV could hit the plastic and the lids fit on very snugly so no airborne elements could get at the stuff either.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

If you're willing to invest a decent sum of money into this then what you want to do is put each game into a sealed plastic bag with a silicone packet or two in each bag. Just google search them if you don't know what they are, they'll keep moisture away from the games. You shouldn't have to put each game into it's own individual bag, just get a bunch of gallon freezer bags and put as many as possible into each.

And then put them into a big box, but make sure it's opaque. If you're really worried, you could tape up the edges of the box to really seal it up and keep smoke out.

When I had to temporarily stow my collection, I used those big Rubbermaid containers.

Anti-static bags and bubble wrap are your friends.

Also, in case of robbers put this things all over the floor:

If your house looks like a "Saw" set when you return then you have succesfully defended your games.
