What console should I collect for?
What console should I collect for?
I was thinking of a third or fourth gen console but I haven't really found one that interests me. I'm looking for something that wasn't one of the most popular consoles of the time and something that is interesting to collect for. Just give me any suggestion you have.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: What console should I collect for?
So basically your saying you want to collect something other than NES, SNES, or Genesis but from that era, correct?
TurboGrafx-16 (4th-gen) and/or Sega Master System (3rd gen) is my suggestion. Both have a pretty good library of games to explore, and many of them are fairly cheap to acquire. Both have pretty reliable hardware and impressive graphics for the time, too.
Some good TurboGrafx-16 games:
-Bloody Wolf
-Bonk's Adventure
-Bonk's Revenge
-Dungeon Explorer
-Legendary Axe 1 & 2
-Lords of Thunder
-Ninja Spirit
-R-Type
-Splatterhouse
-Super Star Soldier
Some good Sega Master System games:
-After Burner
-Altered Beast
-Double Dragon
-Golden Axe
-Hang-On
-Ninja Gaiden
-R-Type
-Shinobi
-Sonic the Hedgehog (different from the Genesis game of the same name)
-Space Harrier
-Streets of Rage

Re: What console should I collect for?
If you want something genuinely interesting to collect, something different that few people go for the Neo Geo AES is a very cool console, it's got some incredible games but it won't be cheap. One other issue is there was no PAL release at all so it'll be exceptionally hard to get in if you're in Europe like me, (but then the same is for all practical purposes true of the TurboGrafx-16 as it has an EXTREMELY limited run in France only).
If you're in Europe I'd go Master System, it did quite well over hear so it'll be easy to collect for and has a nice charm, plus it's really the only other Gen 3/4 console other than the NES/SNES/Mega Drive that came out over here.
Alternatively if you want to go completely snooker-loopy, you could always collect the CD-i... just a thought, perhaps not.

Re: What console should I collect for?
It's a bit more modern, but I'm trying to collect more for the N64. The amount of games for the system is low, like 400 something games, and there are no games that will cost more than $100. This way, there's an actual chance I'll eventually own every single game, unlike with NES where there's ~1000 games and multiple games are worth thousands of dollars.
And most of the games are good, there's not very much shovelware.
Plus, if you're interested in boxed games, the boxes look really cool, with the different colors on each side.
Also, it's a good system for imports. It's easy to region mod it, just dremel off two tabs. But more importantly, it has the N64 DD.
And, it doesn't really affect you or your choice, but I'm collecting for it because I grew up primarily with the N64.

Re: What console should I collect for?
I can say from experience that the Master System is a very fun system to collect for. The games all look neat and uniform on a shelf, and all of the games have a very vibrant, colorful, and distinctive visual style. Plus, there are a bunch of new Master System games being released for developing markets like Brazil [Including a surprisingly competent port of Street Fighter 2!].

Dreamcast can be an interesting console to collect for if you're into shmups and fighters. So is the Saturn.
