For me it'd be Sega Saturn obviously, it has some of my favourite games of all time on it like Alien Trilogy, Titan Wars (Solar Eclipse), Saturn Bomberman, Sonic Jam, Spot Goes To Hollywood and so much more.

For my second choice though, while there are a couple of decent games on the Jaguar, I'd have to go for the 3DO. As everyone is aware, I have no love for the N64 and honestly can't think of a single game on that console I'd want, so that's at the bottom of my 5. The Jaguar had Aliens vs. Predator and Zool which are cool games and I'd be sad to miss them, but the 3DO has Killing Time, Crash 'n Burn, Total Eclipse, Lucienne's Quest and Incredible Machine... sure that's only 5 games but they're fun and if I've got a 3DO, I'm going to use it for Gex too.

When it comes to the PSOne I have to justify what I'm missing though, and honestly, I'm not really missing anything. Even if we assume that the PS2's backwards compatibility is cheating, almost every decent game is avaliable somewhere else. Pretty much every multi-platform game will be on either the SNES, Sega CD, 3DO, Saturn or Dreamcast, more often than not, the Saturn which is the other console I chose. The best games for the PSOne, it's RPGs are all out on either the PSP or the Nintendo DS now, (mostly the PSP), even the Final Fantasy games are avaliable now thanks to PSN. PSN also has the classic platformers like Crash Bandicoot so I'm OK there, and the Gamecube is the best version of the Resident Evil games by far. Pretty much every other series, ie. Tony Hawk, Gran Turismo etc. has had a better sequel come out for the PS2 so that's pretty much everything covered.

So yeah. For me it's Sega Saturn and Panasonic 3DO.

People look back now and lament the crappy N64 titles but games like Mario 64, Mario Kart, and Golden Eye were unbelievable at the time. Mario was the first game where people would just watch others play because it seemed like you were watching a movie.
What? Are you ill.... if not I seriously call into question the movies you've been watching.
@TC, I take it you were not there on launch day for Mario 64? Its a pretty solid analogy. Every time you jumped into a new painting, the people watching, yes watching you would smile at yet another amazing world. Now I know what i'm doing today.

The analogy seemed good to me too. The very first time you play something like that after being stuck in the world of 16-bit, it's just amazing.

Sega Saturn/PS1 combo for the win. I have never been a fan of N64 and continue to not be one. I never owned N64 during its heyday, so I have no nostalgic attachment to it, and I also believe most games have aged poorly for it.

Saturn and PS1 have tons of RPGs, shumps, fighters, and platformers to keep me entertained for a life time.

Sega Saturn and PS1 without a doubt.

Had this been the year 2000 I would have to go with the N64 almost exclusively, but time has been cruel to the system. Most of the games on the system have been remade and/or overhauled on Nintendo's newer platforms anyway. The N64 is made up of, almost exclusively, early 3d games and we all know how muddy the textures can look.

A lot of the Rpgs on the PS1 have also aged poorly, but there are just so many good games with amazing stories that it is still hard to pass up. Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears to name a few. It's nice to own a physical copy of these gems rather than download them.

Out of all those systems I'd say the Sega Saturn has aged the best because of the many 2d games on the platform. 32 bit arcade perfect gaming at its finest. The saturn perfected 2d gaming while the N64 just started 3d gaming.

I'm most interested in the Saturn out of all the systems. I still have quite a few classics that I need to play, but I am loving what I have played thus far.

Awesome video. The N64 was truly amazing and mind blowing when it first came out. Super Mario 64 especially was probably the biggest leap in video game technology ever.

3DO? Sega Saturn? PS1? Those all came first and brought the 16-bit era to the 3D era before N64. Much bigger leaps in video game technology, IMO.

^but...ps1 was a 32bit system which is why they released 3d games that made us dizzy and looked lego blocks revolving around. Mario didn't. PS1 has some superb rpg's, if thats your thing, but not a 3D revolutionary.

SAT was also a powerful 32bit that stuck to what it did well - 2D, as much as I love SAT it isn't known as a pioneer of 3D.

Release date is irreleveant if you don't do something well.
