Is the Sega CD worth collecting for?

Also what do you guys think of the Sega 32X is it worth buying one for the price they go for on eBay?

I say go for it since they are dirt cheap for the most part. I got an NIB one for 50 bucks off eBay a few years ago but they can be found under $25. Since you have a model 2 based setup, you won't have to worry about getting the harder to find model 1 conversion cable, although Gametrog sells repros of them. Knuckles Chaotix is obviously the game to get. The 32X has the best port of Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter isn't that bad as well. Other games worth your while are Shadow Squadron, Blackthorne, and Doom is decent as well. I have it not just for the catalog but just to have it. It makes my juggernaut (Sega CD 1, Genesis 1, 32X) feel complete. It's entirely you're choice if you want to invest in another addon.

32X only had 39 games released for it. And only a handful of games that were released for it were good (and never ported), IMO. My advice is to look at the list of those 39 games. If you see games on there that you just have to play and was never ported, then get it. But if you just look at the list and go "meh." Don't bother.

Tempo is also another game I forgot to mention. It's a typical average platformer title that isn't bad but isn't spectacular either.

totally agree. the only thing above average about the game is watching the main character beep boop around and dance when he isn't being controlled. he is a cute little guy.

I haven't played Blackthorne long enough to really say. Some people like the game though and recommend it as a buy. It's one of Blizzard's old classics. I suggest you try it out on an emulator first to see if you like it. I think the price tag is a little steep for Blackthorne.

And how could I forget After Burner. It's a pretty decent port of the arcade version and it looks and sounds damn good too. Though short, it's still fun as a quick pick up and play title. For sports, check out World Series Baseball or WWF The Arcade Game, though you could just get the Genesis versions of each title and I think the WWF one is pretty hard to find.

Thanks for the advice, yes 90 dollars seems a bit pricy for a 32X game.

Are there any other games or opinions people could offer over these two add ons. Also is it better to get a lose copy with games or to try to get the Sega 32X complete in a box with no games?

Tempo is a fun game and a bit above average, I'd say. The scoring system in it is unique and fun.
