When has a game driven you to just throw the controller and call it a day?
Recently when playing borderlands, our group did a game from start and made it to level 20. The host lagged out, and when I went to reconnect, my character was now only level 9, and lost all of the amazing guns I had picked up. At that point I just called it a night.

Anytime SNK decided they were bringing in Rugal as an end-boss. '98 and '02 turn into real brain-cheddar when you've cranked it up to a decent difficulty. Also, Ultimate Spiderman on the PS2, which just gets unplayable when you've to deal with anything on the z-axis, the controls don't lend themselves comfortably to the task, and even that's render inconsequential by the camera's quirks i.e. now you see me, now you don't, now you still don't, ha, you're dead cause you didn't see me coming.

"Genocide Cutter!" from Dream Match '99... that was LOADS of fun, lol.
For me, I definitely have to say Ikaruga. I spent hours an' hours trying to beat it and each an' every time my endeavors ended with game over and a heavy sigh. I haven't played it for years, but one day... one day...

Interesting you mentioned Ikaruga - I just randomly decided to play it again today. I only made up to the third level and died soon after. The key to becoming good at that game is going into Conquest mode and watching the demo play then playing it on slow and then on normal speed.Runefaust wrote:"Genocide Cutter!" from Dream Match '99... that was LOADS of fun, lol.

It helped me get an A rank on Chapter One but then I got to Chapter Two and lost interest. It just takes a lot of time and patience and if you don't play it in a while you become rusty.
As for me...there is quite large crack in one of my PS2 controllers to show that I have ragequitted many a game. Usually in fighting games I'll lose so much that I just keep playing until I get better or lucky and beat the opponent (coughsoulcaliber3cough).

When the terrible hit detection in CoD4 makes my one-hit-kill-to-anywhere-on-the-body-sniper about as effective as tickling.
When the lag in TF2 makes me miss a backstab.
When I spend an hour straight practicing to get better at Blazblue and then go online to get my ass handed to me like it was being handed out at a charity event.

Yeah, the problem is I would have a few hours to play here an' there but nothing consecutive or consistent because at the time I was so busy with work. I fancy myself fairly good at shmups but with that type of dedication chapter 4 is the farthest I've ever gotten.Sideroller wrote:Interesting you mentioned Ikaruga - I just randomly decided to play it again today. Still, I'd watch youtube videos of that one JP player who plays both players simultaneously flawlessly an', if I remember correctly, he can do it with his feet too, lol!
One day I'll go back an' really dedicate myself to it. I still think it's a great game, an' definitely one of my fav shmups!

With online games probably anytime I lag or get my ass kicked
Other than that it was Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman. I know I could beat it if I kept working at it but I don't want to spend a crapload of time trying to master a game just so I can beat it.
