I really fall in love with Zero Gunner 2 more and more each time I play it. Psikyo really shined during the dreamcast years. ZG2 and Gunbird 2 are fantastic, and cannon spike is great fun.as well

Giga Wing 2 is pretty sweet as well. Much better than the first imo. A 4p mode and 5 unlockable ships is just too cool.

I plan on picking Trizeal up once I can find a copy that isnt $80+

Psyvariar 2 should be here soon, really looking forward to giving that a go. From what I have seen they throw big chunks of colorful bullets at you, which is awesome.

So I think its been decided that everything but chaos field and dux.( and maybe the other milestone stuff) is the best shmup on the Dreamcast :)

I think Fast Striker needs more love too

The dreamcsat really is THE console to get for Shmup gamers. It really has so many unique titles and ports of Neo Geo and arcade games that there is something for every type of gamer.

I prefer vertical shooters, but horizontal are also good.

Personaly favorites are Zero Guner 2, Under Defeat, and Fast Striker.

The upcoming SturmWind is a great looking game coming straight of the powerhouse that is Germany. Man, it seems like all the good new Dreamcast titles are coming from the vaterland!

Just look at those graphics!

Gunlord is also looking like it will be an excellent game when it comes out, but it is more along the lines of a game like Metal Slug, as in being a run, jump and shooting game, but it also has platforming elements, so that looks to be a plus!

Haha ok fair enough! You can't deny though, there is a ton of Shmups on the Dreamcast, even when you take into account all the Neo Geo CD games that are emulated 100% on the system, plus many PS1 Shmups play 100% full speed on the Dreamcast too like Strikers 1945 1 and 2.

I am about to receive my 2nd ever Saturn after not owning one for 10 years, really can't wait to delve into the games on that system again. 8)

I still got a Gameshark cart for it in storage somewhere, just need to get it our along with a handful of games and hopefully recover my old Genesis and games too.

Man I really need to get a game selector box so I can keep all my systems plugged up at the same time.

Do you think it could emulate some of the shooters that never had ports? Some stuff like:

Dangun Feveron
Armed Police Batrider
Battle Bakraid
Esp RaDe
Strikers 1999
Dimahoo

Any of those would be sweet to have, and seem possible to emulate

Depends on what system we are talking about emulating. Bleemcast beta that was released, which Striker 1945 runs on was only 30% completed before the company went on a game by game basis for emulating PS1 games. This is why Gran Turismo 2, Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3 all require boot discs even to this day.

Somebody just managed to hack the beta code so we could play self booting PS1 backups on a Dreamcast.

Again, if you are talking PS1 emulation, it is pretty much touch and go, but some very rare games to work full speed, even though some things may remain glitched for instance, like the Beta has no save or FMV support like the retail Bleem! boot discs do.

Your best bet would be looking at the Bleemcast compatibility list to see whats supported.

Hundreds of PS1 games do work fine on Dreamcast, but again, saves and FMV's make playing many games like RPG's totally pointless, but are fine or quick arcade like games like Shmups.

I reckon if Strikers 1999 uses the same engine 1945 1 and 2 do, then your chances of playing that game are highly likely.
