Just quickly wondering but does the Sega CD have region lock. Could I play a Japanese CD game on a American Genesis and American Sega CD. Just wondering seeing as the cases for Japanese game seem to be better and more compact. Also which model is better 1 or two, what are far prices for the CD unit and a Genesis.

IIRC, the Model 1 has a 1X CD-Rom, while the Model 2 has a 2X CD-Rom. So obviously you'd want a Model 2. Also, the Model 2 has a top-open CD tray which will last longer. The Model 1 has the front-loading CD-tray which eventually wears out.

Some websites will say the Model 2 is not compatible with the Model 1 Sega Genesis. That's a bunch of hogwash. I had a Model 1 Genesis and a Model 2 Sega CD and they worked fine.

i am sure you can burn a disc or switch a bios with another bios or whatever it is people do to play japanese games on an american system. you can also buy a cdx cart. don't confuse it with the cdx system. but they are specific to a system - for example, there is a cdx cart for a model 1 and a different cdx cart for a model 2 - and can be hard to find and pricey. i have never seen a model 2 cdx cart for sale before and i think a model 1 cdx cart is up on ebay for 150 USD.

i wouldn't waste my time with japanese games unless you can read japanese. 90% of the exclusives are RPGs and the other 10% look awful.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Sonic 1 Megamix ftw. They are working on a CD quality soundtrack according to the most recent update.

Both the model 1 and model 2 Sega CD's use the same power supply, which is also the same as the Genesis model 1 power supply.
What a maneuver!

Just wondering but is it true that some games will not work on a Sega CD model 2? Also if I only have rf do I still hook the right and left channel through the outputs on the Sega CD? what if I have a stereo/video cable for the genesis, does it just go through the genesis then?

In your case, since you have a model 2 Genesis connected with a Sega CD, you can choose to get stereo audio from either the rca jacks from the rear of the unit or through stereo audio cables from the Genesis.

If you are using a model 1 Genesis, you will need to use the mixing cable (just a standard 3.5mm male to male headphone cable) to go from the Genesis' headphone jack to the 'mixing cable' port on the back of the Sega CD (applicable to both model 1 and 2 Sega CDs) in order to get stereo sound. You can't get stereo sound from a model 1 Genesis' A/V port (obviously) so using a stereo audio video cable from a 32X connected to a Genesis 1 will still result in mono unless you use this method, which is explained in detail below.

If you're using a model 1 Genesis, do NOT have a mixing cable plugged between both units, and are trying to use the rca jacks on the back of the Sega CD for stereo sound, you will only get Sega CD audio (CD streaming audio and audio from the Sega CDs built-in PCM soundchip) and no Genesis audio. I find this method, though more complex, to be the best since you can control the volume of the Genesis audio separately from the CD audio. This goes great for games like Road Avenger, which has louder volume than the Genesis portion of the audio. Of course, you'd have to have a model 1 Genesis to do this.

I don't mean to go overkill, I just don't know how much you know about this or not. Good info if you ever get your hands on a model 1 Genesis or Sega CD.

That's fine. I always feel it is better to got over then not enough. So if I have the red, white, and yellow cable for the genesis it will get stereo sound that way? That's good to know some people were telling me it was only mono through those and that I would still need the seperate rca cables. That will save me some money.
