The Gamecube was designed to be a graphics powerhouse, they just didn't think Microsoft was going to throw tons of cash into the market to build the powerful, but clunky xbox.

Microsoft proved that anyone could make a console popular by just having enough money. I'm not making an aspersions as towards its quality, be it hard/software, but It was just a sacrificial entry console, as far as the marketing bods at HQ were concerned, a loss leader to establish the brand. The 360 is where they really went for the gauntlet.

Exactly, for example, the Xbox had Phantom Dust, Mech Assault and Deus Ex: IW, the GC had Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Sunshine and The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess, the PS2 had the Team Ico games, MGS3 and Final Fantasy XII, etc. (And I barely mentioned any games)

Each console in each generation haves it's ups and downs and it's up to developers to take advantage of them as much as they can.

And by the way, Sturmwind looks amazing, if only it was cheaper...
Yep, too bad it was recently delayed because they wanted to improve on the A.I and improve some of the level designs and supposedly they felt it could still use some improvement when it comes to what it looks like. Should be interesting. Mentioning Xbox interesting how they made it out of left over computer parts like Pentinum 3 CPU's. My Pentinum 4 could not even do that, what the hell.

Maybe it was due to optimizations? It may have been left overs but look at this: Sometimes left overs are much better than the main dish

I love my Gamecube.

1. The Gameboy Player. This is absolutely, hands-down the best way to play Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games. You see so many details in the background and other things you might have missed playing the games on the original hardware. And it's only compatible with Gamecube, not Wii.

2. Awesome exclusives, not as many as XBox or PS2, maybe, but the ones they have are excellent: Eternal Darkness, Star Fox Assault, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil Remake, etc. And a lot of them have that unique Nintendo charm.

3. Great graphics. They looked much better than a good majority of Dreamcast & PS2 games.

4. Very comfortable controllers with 4 build-in controller ports.

I still like my O.G. XBox more, though.

And we have more than just one console per kid now. But if you want to see the good-ol' childish brand debating again, just check out Gamespot's System Wars board.

That is great looking, I think it was optimizations, they felt they could still get more out of the system. Plus the Dreamcast has very comfortable controllers and four controller ports. Now thinking about it the PS2 was the only one that generation that did not have 4 controller ports.

Optimization makes all the difference. Poor optimization is why it takes a PC that is much more powerful than an oXbox to run Halo or Halo 2. Excellent optimization is why a small handful of oXbox games look as good as early current gen titles.

Whoa I've just started a great thread! but yeah whenever i read stuff like Gamespot or IGN forums a general consensus is that the Gamecube is the "Worst" Nintendo Home Console. And for that game list I didn't name all of the good gamecube games because i was too lazy too. But competing with the Ps2 was difficult but HOW COULD ANYONE choose an XBOX over the Gamecube back in the day. I only had the gamecube during last generation and it was awesome! The pad sucks for fighters MINUS Soulcalibur II and Melee and it's perfect for Zelda.

There was a point in time when it was 99$ and came with the Zeldas Collectors Edition.

Talk about value! Oh and I might be able to buy Pikmin 1 and Phantasy Star Online EP 1+2 for 25 soon as well is that a good deal?
