I could maybe see this. My experience with the Gamecube was when it first came out and it was just that much more disappointment after the N64.

1. No online play (for 98% of the games)

How many people who didn't own an Xbox (or Dreamcast) actually played consoles online last generation?

2. Bad 3rd party support, meaning it missed out on many multiplat games. The lack of most Lucas Arts games was an especially large void.

Quality over quantity, my friend.

3. Not as many RPGs as the PS2

Already refuted in an earlier post.

4. Not as many "mature" games as the Xbox and PS2

Given what "mature" games have shown themselves to be in the game industry, is this really a bad thing?

I'd agree with that. Losing Xbox Live on the original Xbox certainly changed its value to me.

Let's talk build quality.

15 years from now people are going to be scrambling to find a working PS2 - the gamecubes will keep chugging along, though. I think that the Saturn is probably the only disc based console that comes anywhere near rivaling the GCN for build quality.

Now for the controller: Yeah, if you're used to a PS2 controller, it's awkward. But if you overcome that bias and actually spend some time with the GCN controller it really is the most ergonomic thing I've ever touched since (again) the Sega Saturn's Model 2 and 3D controllers.

Last thing I want to throw out there:

GCN + Component Cables + GB Player = Fat kid in an ice cream parlor levels of fun.

i for one, love the micro-con NGC controller. the same layout, just...smaller in size.
