Why do people say that the Gamecube sucks?/ Gamecube Thread

This is one question that has always been on my mind. Whats so bad about the gamecube? It could play gameboy games, had a respectable library OK third party support and really good first party so, whats so bad about it? Because alot of people claim the n64 is better and that gamecube sucks. So let's discuss the Gamecube!

Oh boy, another uninformative favorites list Thread. If you want to do the GC justice, maybe throw in some reviews of your list in the OP.

Gamecube is a good system, let's get that out of the way. However, it is not flawless. These are the main complaints people have with it usually:

1. No online play (for 98% of the games)
2. Bad 3rd party support, meaning it missed out on many multiplat games. The lack of most Lucas Arts games was an especially large void.
3. Not as many RPGs as the PS2
4. Not as many "mature" games as the Xbox and PS2
5. Crappy controller

Most of those points can be ignored, as it has plenty of good games anyhow. However, I do agree with 2 and 5 myself, and as such, the GCN is my least favorite of the PS2/Xbox/GCN era of consoles. It has a smaller number of games I'm interested in than the Xbox and PS2 do, and the controller layout has always bugged me.

I perfer to play the original Metal Gear as oppose to twin snakes. Anywho, I think the NGC is a great system (I personally like it a whole lot more the N64). The major flaws with the system IMO are the lack of certain genres in their software catalog (lack of good fighters) and its questionable controller ( I jus can't deal with that tiny Dpad, I hate it!)

I think a lot of it is just preference. The ps2 library was is just vastly superior in my eyes. For some sports titles and a few other exclusives I used my xbox.

Beyond that, the gc didn't offer too many games I was interested in. Loved smash, fire emblem, tales, and a handful of othergood rpgs and re4 but for so many other titles I just didn't care much about. T was also a more family and kid oriented system. They had some mature titles, but they were few and far between, especially compared to the ps2 and xbox. I don't hate the gc, but it offers the least value to me out of that console generation.

I do like the controller, especially the wavebirds. But at the time, it wasn't online friendly. It helps it stand the retro test of time better, as a lot of the xbox's strength came from quality online experiences. Those don't hold up as well now.

Common, that one's just not fair. It's like complaining as system doesn't have as many fighting games as the Saturn.
