I don't play mine often, but it definitely runs a lot cooler and quieter than the 2006 models.

My friends and I have had great luck with the slims. I don't think I know anyone that's had to replace theirs or anything.
Re: XBOX360 Slims , any common hardware problems ?
The only thing I'd heard of was that some people were complaining that MS didn't seem to do anything to address the potential problem of the system scratching discs if it was moved while in operation. Some drives in them could be better than others, and obviously it's not a portable device...but there was the hope it would be addressed, I guess.
Not so much a failure as a lack of an upgrade there though.

It was annoying when my 2006 Xbox 360 would start drowning out the sound from my TV with its horrendously loud disc drive. Xbox 360 is the loudest system I've ever owned, even Dreamcast was quieter.Hobie-wan wrote:I don't play mine often, but it definitely runs a lot cooler and quieter than the 2006 models.

My phat PS3 gives my 120GB Elite 360 a run for its money in the noise department.BoringSupreez wrote:It was annoying when my 2006 Xbox 360 would start drowning out the sound from my TV with its horrendously loud disc drive. I've seen a lot of really dumb complaints about the 360 over the years, but really? REALLY? Microsoft, please protect me from me being retarded and moving the system around while a disc is spinning in the drive? What next, complaining that your save gets corrupted when you power off during the act of saving?isiolia wrote:The only thing I'd heard of was that some people were complaining that MS didn't seem to do anything to address the potential problem of the system scratching discs if it was moved while in operation. Anyhow, the slim is about as solid as the hardware is going to get. It even has overheating protection. We've had a few over here that we tried purposefully to RROD, and no luck. It simply warns you about heat and shuts itself off if it gets anywhere near to being compromised. In comparison to the old models, you can do simple yet great things -- have HDMI for video and Digital Optical for audio without having to buy a special cable. You don't have to buy a separate wifi adapter. If you're going to use Kinect (WHY?!), there's a connector especially for it on the slim, which means no second power brick is required like it is for the other 360 models. The optical drive is still easy to hack if you want to go that way and have no interest in the Live platform. Etc, etc.
There's no real reason I can see NOT to get a slim.

Some disc drives do a good job of locking a disc so that it's not a danger. Some don't. I think the complaint stemmed more from a hardware refresh being an opportune time for MS to standardize a more robust drive mechanism, and they didn't.irixith wrote: I've seen a lot of really dumb complaints about the 360 over the years, but really? I'd pick up a Slim in a heartbeat if Microsoft would sell a unit with a 100GB or so harddrive and no Kinect for $200-$250. I'm getting annoyed with the insistence on bundling Kinects or including larger harddrives to justify a lack of price drops. Honestly, I doubt I could fill up a 120GB HD much less a 250GB one.
