Half-Life for Dreamcast

Post by scarper »

For those unaware, a Dreamcast version of Half-Life was completed, but cancelled at the very last minute (possibly because Valve had nothing to do with the port.) An image of the completed game was leaked on the internet, and has since been made playable to the masses and modded up the butt.

And holy hell. I just started last night, with this being my first Half-Life game. Figured if I loved Portal so much, then I should probably play the rest of the Combine series. This game plays great, and would have definitely sold many copies.

I only though late 90's video games couldn't actually scare me, until I played Half-Life last night. I love it!! It gave me nightmares and everything, I fucking love this!!!

Half-Life is a great game, yes, and has aged quite well for such an old FPS, but you're playing the least good version. You really out to play it on PC or PS2.

Get the PS2 version and install it with HDAvance/HDLoader.

The Dreamcast version is nice, but a painstaking load when you go to different areas. The Dreamcast does have console exclusives such as They Hunger, worth waiting for the loading screens.

Oh, I definitely know what you mean. Loading screens typically don't bother me at all. I still laugh at moments like enter and elevator, press a button, loading screen. Go through the room, kill a monster, through a hallway, loading screen. talk to an employee, flip a switch, go through a vent, loading screen.

The Dreamcast version is the best simply because it is being played on the Dreamcast, the greatest console of all time.

Seriously though, the character models in the Dreamcast version do look more detailed than in the PC version.

It plays the best on the PC, I own it on the PS2 (and I have a burnt copy of the DC), both versions are a waste of time.

Yeah, the Dreamcast version is the best because it has the HD models the PS2 version has, but is so close to the PC version, that it actually has like 10 PC mod ports to the Dreamcast! No other console can play PC mods, NONE! Dreamcast Windows CE Operating System for the mother fucking WIN!

They are all stand alone games now too!

Get Paranoia and They Hunger! Paranoia pushes the Dreamcast to its limits, and many compare it to many Source engine mods, it really does look that nice!

Prepare to jizz in your pants brother, nothing compares to the Dreamcast, it really is the best system ever made!

The Xbox can't even do that, with all its technically better hardware and all!

Too bad the Dreamcast has an official Mouse and Keyboard for FPS games... Take that Xbox!

Real hardcore gamers use precision Mouse and Keyboard for their FPS games. What now dude? Gonna hate some more?

Also, Dreamcast was the first system to do HD resolution, Checkmate Xbox!

Same comment I made in the PS2 Half Life thread, if you need a Keyboard and Mouse to enjoy a FPS, just play the PC verison (At least in the PS2 version of HL you don't need a DC Keybaord / Mouse, just a normal USB).

Also as the Xbox does not have a port of HL, no point discussing the system at all.
