Power Stone 1 Computer AI is cheap! Game Help Please!

Post by Guinness »

So I finally picked up Power Stone, a game I never previously owned for Dreamcast. I love the game, it's great with two players and I see now where the Super Smash Bros. series picked up a few of it's ideas. My only gripe with the game is the computer AI is #%#$%# lame and cheap! All it does is #@%$# jump! Constantly it #%$@ jumps. Maybe I could actually hit you if you'd ever quit jumping like a $!%$#@ $#%$@!!! Now I play a lot of First Person Shooters and I'll admit, I'll bunny hop like there is no tomorrow if it's going to save my life, hell it's part of the culture of First Person Shooters. But in a fighter is just plain annoying. Stand on the ground and fight me!!! Yes I feel like Angry Video Game Nerd here, I'm this close to smashing my controller. I even put the game on the easiest setting and the AI is still cheap and jumps non stop. Further more why is it the Power Stones drop right in their lap and appear the furthest possible distance from me? I'll never fully unlock the game like this. Any tips or skills to try out will be greatly appreciated. I do love this game BTW, it's just tough!

Maybe you just suck?

I comped this years and years ago when it first came out on the hardest difficulty level. It's not that hard! I've played much harder fighting games.

There might be some guides on there.

I've never had the AI act like that on my copy of the game though.

I played this game a bit in Japan when it first came out in the arcades. I found it to be quite n00b friendly (and the Dreamcast port to be pixel perfect). I was as good as most of the Japanese players, which is unusual :)

Kinda odd timing but, I just got it last night to test out my new DC... And I got it for 100Y! :D
I didn't read the manual (who does?) and I got a little whooped the 1st battle (Fokker is a fokker) but I got used to it mighty quick. We'll see how it progresses though~

This is a pretty tough for a fighting game. I can breeze through Dead or Alive 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, or Soul Calibur, destroying the computer with seamless and fluid combos.

This game is just something else. Gamefaq can't help me either, there is no guide for cheap computer AI that never stops jumping. Seriously, am I the only with a copy of the game with cheap AI? I been playing and getting better, I have no problem beating the game now, but to beat the game without a loss to unlock Final Valgas is going to be tough with such a bunny hop overkill computer.

This game still rocks with two players. I'll be picking up Power Stone 2 soon for sure.

I'm guessing there's some obvious reason for this but, why don't you jump aswell?

You know I tried doing that, and you know what it helps, but. . . . . dot . .

Why stoop to it's level? Thats what it wants me to do! I only did it to mock it, look at me!!!! I can jump and jump!!! You can't catch me!!! Do you know how idiotic it looks for both players to jump non stop? I'm better than that! Stay on the ground and fight me! Cheap computer needs to just hold still so I can hit it! :D lol

Dude, it's just lines of code telling a game character what to do, not a bully.

Maybe you can jump and attack it until it stops jumping, in my experience, if the AI is doing something cheap (ie. turtling, jumping, constantly firing hadoukens, etc.) if you do it too, the AI will stop after a few seconds.
Also, maybe you can just jump once or twice (instead of bunny hopping) and knock the AI out of the air and attack him when they're on the ground.

GSZX has good advice, just do it back.

My strategy for powerstone is pretty blatantly obvious- I Constantly throw/push items at people, and jump-kick wars aren't uncommon allthough annoying. Learn to jump off the walls too, there doesn't need to be an actual "wall" there, you can always jump off the wall of the level. with fokker you can double jump, then jump off the wall and attack. "jump-kick" confrontations are handled like "Joust"; whoever comes in higher wins.

Identify which Powerstone attacks are "homing" or auto-aiming and use those more often. When the computer is jumping around keep it busy by using lots of thrown/pushed objects or weapons and jump attacks that have aiming characteristics. Save the beat-down combos for when you can get in close. Wait for the AI to go for a weapon or something and be in the right place when they do. Remember, what goes up must come down.
