Favorite and best Tengen arcade ports (NES)?

Post by Seandood »

I just want to know what everyone's favorites are in this department. I'm still on the quest of discovering more of these cartridges myself.

So far I've obtained Pac-Man, Fantasy Zone, Rolling Thunder, Gauntlet, and this game:

What can I say, I'm a sucker for amusing labels. I actually thought Tengen Toobin was entertaining, but I can't really compare the port to its predecessor since I never had a chance to play it.

I've also heard that Tengen Tetris is pretty rad, though I have yet to see a copy that isn't overpriced (unless it's really worth it).

I do like Toobin', but R.B.I. Baseball is my favorite Tengen game -- then again, I am not sure if that is an arcade port. If I stick to arcade ports only, then... hm. Good question.

As far as arcade ports, I'd probably rate Pac-Man, Alien Syndrome, and Fantasy Zone at the top. I actually like the Tengen version of Fantasy Zone better than Sega's Master System version--although the Famicom version by Sunsoft is far superior to the Tengen version.

Not to give anything away with my top 100 NES games list, but there's only one truly exceptional Tengen game that'll finish HIGH on the list and it starts with T and ends with etris.

Agree with others, Tengen Tetris. The lost Team Play mode, ends up a race who gets their block in the hole first. This mode finally got resurrected on the Wii. :D

Nice, I didn't even think there would be an NES Shinobi. Doesn't surprise me though since they slipped multiple Sega titles into the mix...

Altered Beast and Fantasy Zone were ported to NES as well. Obviously Sega didn't make any of these ports themselves.
