Buying Used Current Gen. Consoles
Re: Buying Used Current Gen. Consoles
The PS3 is designed to play games, DVDs, BlueRays and music discs. You can even run Netflix on it. Just keep in mind YLOD can happen, who knows when or if a console would get it. Usually the cause is from the unleaded solder cracking from heating and cooling of components on the PCB.
Look at what makes a console "work" harder resulting in higher heat. Games load intermittently, is the disc reader eye working less when not loading data into memory? Movies continuously run the reader and Netflix is constantly writing to the hard drive while it streams. My earlier mention of maybe less then pristine rental movies also something to consider. There are stand alone BlueRay players that are Netflix ready for under a hundred bucks.

but again, in this situation -- he's using the BR as a justification to get a new console. So either he'll be using the PS3 as a BR player, or he'll just buy a BR player, but not both.CRTGAMER wrote:The PS3 is designed to play games, DVDs, BlueRays and music discs. You might as well tell him not to use the ps3 to play ps3 games, I mean don't want to put wear on the system right?

this might be cocky but I used a launch-era PS2 as my primary DVD player as recent ago as 2008. I never had problems with it. Now saying that, I've never used my PS3 as a BR player. But that's because I don't own a single BR disc. On the flip, the PS3 in my bedroom is used far more often for my wife to strema Netflix than ever to play games.

I still use my XBOX as my DVD player.noiseredux wrote:this might be cocky but I used a launch-era PS2 as my primary DVD player as recent ago as 2008. I never had problems with it.

More people would have done that if MS hadn't stupidly required people to buy a $25 remote before they could play DVDs.o.pwuaioc wrote:I still use my XBOX as my DVD player.noiseredux wrote:this might be cocky but I used a launch-era PS2 as my primary DVD player as recent ago as 2008. ...you know you don't have to right? I've done it once or twice and I don't have the remote.BoringSupreez wrote:More people would have done that if MS hadn't stupidly required people to buy a $25 remote before they could play DVDs.o.pwuaioc wrote:I still use my XBOX as my DVD player.noiseredux wrote:this might be cocky but I used a launch-era PS2 as my primary DVD player as recent ago as 2008. Re: Buying Used Current Gen. Consoles
Ok, so using estarland.com I was able to trade in a ton of games that I don't want (those $2 games add up when you don't have to worry about shipping) and got a new PS3, Castelvania LOS (New), Super Street Fighter IV (Used), and Dragon Age Origins (Used) for no cash out my pocket.
For those concerned with blueray use, we own zero blueray discs and only really have kids DVDs. Our kids only watch 1hr (2hr on weekend) of TV a day so wear from DVD/BR will be minimal.
I'm hoping that I can use my SF Anniversary PS2 pad via a usb adapter that I already have, then I will get one of the three Capcom HD Remake games. Once I have that my collection will be set for a while - I plan on playing FF Tactics and FF9 on the machine too.
What are some "Must Have" PS3 games that I should keep a look out for great deals on?

that's awesome. The thread inspired me to go thru my stuff and trade-in to eStarland too. So now I'm sitting on $280 worth of credit there.SpaceBooger wrote:Ok, so using estarland.com I was able to trade in a ton of games that I don't want (those $2 games add up when you don't have to worry about shipping) and got a new PS3, Castelvania LOS (New), Super Street Fighter IV (Used), and Dragon Age Origins (Used) for no cash out my pocket.

SSF4 is so must-own, so I'm glad you got that. I also use the SF2 anniversary pad using a USB adapter. It's great.
If you like fighting, you NEED MvC3. I also consider 3D Dot Game Heroes reason enough to own a PS3. And it's only like $17 at GameStop.

You should try to get Splatterhouse, Enslaved, Yakuza 3, BlazBlue, Heavy Rain, Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Avoid Sigma 2, it's the equivalent to a PG/PG-13 rated Ninja Gaiden game) and FFXIII. Resonance Of Fate is pretty awesome too.
