Buying Used Current Gen. Consoles

I think SpaceBooger is looking for a game console with the side benefit of a BlueRay Player on the PS3. You brought a good point what I alluded to earlier. Its best to save wear and tear of a game console just for games. Imagine getting a YLOD or RROD during a movie watch, when an added stand alone player is inexpensive.

I wouldn't use any game console for watching movies, unnecessary wear and tear. A standalone player is cheaper, throw the rentals in there. I wonder how much unseen microscopic damage are on rental discs? Flexing from being pried off the rigid center holders of the case?

Im buying it to game on, the BR is just a bonus and a good way to convince the wife it's a good purchase .

I decided on the PS3 based on the fact that most games I want to play are on both systems. I like the PS3 for the free online play and the number of RB members I know are on playing the games I want to play (I hate FPS). Plus online play would be last on my list of reasons to buy a console.

The reason I was asking about used ones is because I am cheap. Since I am cheap I want the best value for my money not just the lowest price. I have been in the game too long and know how fragile these new systems are, I just wanted to hear from those who have used them from people who's opinions I trust.
I the more I look into it, I think I'm going to wait until I can get a new one via paypal and trades at eStarland.

Few months later after you get the PS3
Save wear and tear on your PS3 later on. You can walk the dangerous grounds and point out a newer standalone BlueRay player with added features for BlueRay viewing.

Yeah I would totally wait and get a new one. No point laying out the cash for a piece of crap that will dud out on ya. The PS3 truly has better graphics then the Xbox 360. I Play Battlefield Bad Company 2 on my PS3 and my Xbox 360. The PS3 version has way better graphics. Xbox's trees are all blurred and the textures are not as clean.

I've streamed tons of stuff on my PS3, and I've had it for a year. No problems so far.

You may have already known this but eStarland requires trade in games to be CIB to get their full trade in value. That really sucks for 64 games and SNES.
Example: Super Metroid trade in value = $22.00 - 60% for no case or manual.

Yeah I noticed, and because of that I'm only trading in PS2 and Gamecube games. I also noticed that they are sticklers for stickers and stuff too, but it looks to be a decent way to trade in stuff to avoid and do better than GameStop.

You won't be hurting your ps3 watching blu rays on it. CRT is just overly paranoid about them breaking.

Just try and make sure the used ps3 you're getting is in good shape (and hasn't had any repairs or anything done) and you'll do fine.

My ps3 was used. 60gb model even. I watch movies all the time on it, have had it for a good year at least, and have no issues at all.
