The start of a new trend for Gamestop?

I hate GameStop. Literally hate. The routinely open special edition games that I would have been willing to buy from them if they were still sealed. Can't stand them selling open games as "new". Fuck them.

How do they continue to get away with these types of practices? It's really shocking.

i almost feel like buying a copy from there and opening a can of whoop-ass right there in the store when I notice my OnLive coupon is missing. I have never wanted a company to go bankrupt so much.

It's ironic how gamers cannot shop at Gamestop. That's fucked up.

What's most ridiculous is that retail copies of DE:HR register on Steam anyway. So GameStop is promoting competition regardless.

And it is such a nice move by Square Enix, because it's restoring value to retail PC games (which they have lost with the DRM, one-time activation and so on). If you don't like Steam, use OnLive, or vice-versa. You can gift one of your copies at the very least. Since we can't actually lend PC games to anyone anymore, we could have at least this little consolation.

This must finally be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

The correct response from Gamestop once they discovered the agreement between OnLive and Square-Enix would have been to refuse to stock the game, or simply to ask that the vouchers be removed for their shipments. To remove them on their own prerogative, it simply has to violate something, SOMEWHERE.

We understand that Gamestop does not want to sell a product that involves a direct competitor to their service, but is this what we're going to come to? Steam vs. Origin vs. Gamestop vs. X vs. Y vs. Z? I don't want that. :( I do want competition to keep the market fair, I don't want to have 10 accounts because of exclusivity agreements with various brick and mortar retailers that are grasping at straws because they can't change their business models.

The wiki was updated to mention this already. It's the very last sentence on the page.
Thank you, but they still fail to mention that you may run into difficulty when returning a "gutted" game -- if the manager is nice, they'll let it slide. If they are obeying store policy to the letter.. well, winds and brunoafh put it better.

Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

The shear number of locations doesn't help. Around here, there's literally one in every town. No matter where you are, you're around a GameStop. If you're not on the Internet hearing about the bad things GameStop does, you have no reason not to shop there. Shit, even if you told most of the people that shop there... would they care? So for each of us on the forum that are into preserving and collecting, there's 10 kids that are going to GameStop to get the game of the week. The closest location to my house is like 20 feet from a high school. I know not to go there when school lets out because all the kids go there. Stand around and play the demos set up, trade in last week's game for this week's game. They make it so enchanting to kids and teenagers, like if you are a gamer than that's the place to be. So yeah... GameStop isn't going anywhere.
