I want to make a GBC into a small arcade cabinet

The basic plan would be to take a Game Boy Color motherboard, wire the screen and speakers up to a detached PSOne screen, and then wire a joystick w/ buttons to the mother board.

Trouble is, I haven't the most expansive knowledge with the workings of the GBC motherboard or the PSOne screen. I think I'd have to use the DC 3V power connector to make it all work, but that springs up other questions: Would I have to replace that with a different power adapter supporting more than 3 volts? If I did that, how would it affect the mother board?

I'd for sure be able to make the casings and paint jobs all on my own, but correctly wiring x thing to x other thing is something I'm a bit unsure of.

So far, the basic plan would be to have it somewhere between 1-2 ft tall and however wide it needs to be without making the screen look to small. It would be meant for playing on a table of some sort. I'd re-wire the cartridge loader to the back of the miniature cabinet (to allow easy access), and re-wire other things like the link port and the headphone jack to various locations around the casing. Find a basic/cheap joystick and wire that to the Game Boy, wire the screen to the PSOne screen, finalize the casing and give it a kickass paint job.

Any Racketboy modders know a thing or two that may be of help?

Now that's damn cool. I'd plan on making mine look more like a standard arcade cabinet, but damn. Such a pretty thing.

I think I'd somehow put an amount of weight in the bottom to prevent it from moving around during hardcore joystick use. Maybe design it so that it can easily be bolted/un-bolted to whatever surface.

I think that the biggest problem would be that the Gameboy color video output is not compatible with the PSOne screen. The idea is good, though. I have seen little arcade games like that made using some of the systems that are built in the controllers that hook right to the TV and one that was made using a Genesis model 3. I think that either one of those may be better options for you to pursue.

How about a MAME cab, only instead of MAME, you use Visual Boy Advance or any of the other GB emulators?

GB slides in the casing. The screen is lit up and magnified. The HB's button-overlay hits the GB's button. The HB's arcade stick hits the GB's d-pad. Most interestingly, the arcade stick has 2 settings: 4-way and 8-way.

I was going to recommend the same thing. Think of this -- brighter color screen, GBA ports, plus if you get a GBA flashcart, you can even emulate NES, SNES, Gen, TG16, SMS, etc.
