If you're gonna play through the original on Zero Mission, I would recommend using an action replay to unlock the original so that you can play it before Zero Mission. Zero Mission ruined the original for me IMO, since I played it first.

Now I guess this is somewhat relevant to the topic, but if there's one game that could really benefit from the Zero Mission quality remake treatment, it's Metroid 2 for me. Unlike the original Metroid which I can go back to all the time and still love unlike some in this thread... Metroid 2 no matter how many times I try to get into it, I just can't. The lack of constant music, the lack of color, the huge sprites, it's literally almost headache inducing to me in many ways.

I just gotta get that out there, I am a diehard Metroid fan, but I don't like Metroid 2 that much at all. A remake would be great. I know there's a lot of fanmade ones in the process, but we all know how promising fanmade games and projects are! An official Metroid 2 in the vein of Zero Mission / Fusion would be gold.

My biggest problem with Metroid II is that so many of the areas look so incredibly similar that it's far too easy to get lost.

I agree, but I think it has this problem less than the original does.

Confession:

I don't like the original Metroid, and as a result have never beaten it. Same goes for Metroid 2, but less so.

I bought Zero Mission when it was released, despite some mixed feelings going in (specifically, didn't like the original, loved Fusion), and absolutely loved it.

Let the lynching begin. :)

No lynching. Metroid is one of my all time favorite game series but even I can admit the original two games have not aged well. I just wish Nintendo would reboot Return of Samus the way they did the original game.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

They really should consider remaking it instead of adding on another installment in the storyline. Other M fell flat on it's face trying to do that, and even then I thought it was practically the same plot as Metroid Fusion except minus the X parasites.

A proper Metroid II remake on the Wii U or even DS would be awesome. I hope Nintendo decides to do it down the road, or even get Retro back to develop it.

I would really, really love that. I'd buy it day one.

I can't concur with this. The bigger sprites and lack of color makes it worse for me, plus the Spring Ball makes the game feel like you have to check every single corner, ceiling, wall, and everything. I never get lost in the original, that said it's been one of those recurring games I've played for 20 or so years and have been in love with since. I will admit as a kid, I don't think I ever got past Norfair (the second area, purple bubbles says enough. That area had some trial and error exploring because I remember to find Ridley's lair you have to find breakable walls off and on throughout the area).

On the other hand, I played enough of Blaster Master to get to the final stage back in the day even as a kid. It was maze-like at times as well, but the level design was far more diverse and distinguishable. But I don't think I properly beat it until I emulated it in the late 90's or something.

Man I really want to disagree with you. Not sure how I could so with a straight face, though. Other M's story line had so much potential. Why they had to make it all Metroid Gear Solid / screw it up so badly is beyond me.
