For instance: My friend gave me my SNES back in the day as a Christmas present. Never been a big gift giver or receiver and getting a $100+ gift between middle class friends (not even my best friend at the time I'll admit) was crazy. I've owned the system since and love it. Unfortunately I discovered a few years later that his mom was a habitual hot check writer so I received stolen goods. It was a little late to do anything about it by the time I found out and now it made sense why they moved all the time.

I know you didn't phrase it as a Top X and you noted to post stories. However you didn't post a story and most posts so far have just been lists. I wasn't trying to attack you I just have no interest in Top X posts and tend to ignore them. If other people enjoy them, that's fine. I just think they're cliche and people always post "Why didn't you post *my favorite game*" and "Game #5 sucks".BurningDoom wrote: Read the first post.

Re: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary
All right, I'll take CRT's and Hobie's suggestions. I bought my first SNES in 2007, for $70 (I got ripped off, I know. That's what you get for not researching prices before buying at brick-and-mortar stores). I purchased Super Mario World and Super Star wars along with it, and took it home to play. I was immediately impressed by the smoothness of the graphics, since I was used to playing Genesis through an RF cable. The controller impressed me as well; I had never had such an old system with such a comfortable, numerously buttoned controller. Super Mario World remains one of my favorite Mario games, and one of my favorite games period. Super Star Wars... eh. Not so great.
I'd list my favorite SNES games as:
6. Mega Man X: My favorite Mega Man game. The graphics are so much better than those on the NES games, along with the music IMO. I loved the added moves they gave Mega Man this time around. I'd love Capcom to do a new Mega Man X game for PSN, sort of like what they did for the original series.
5. Super Mario World 2: Probably the best 2D graphics on the SNES. Mario's cries are annoying, and the gameplay is a bit easy for a Mario game, but I still like it.
4. Donkey Kong Country: The game that cemented awareness of Rareware in many peoples minds, and arguably the game that brought the SNES victory over the Genesis. Once more, this is a rather simplistic platformer, but the gameplay is very fun anyway. Memorable music, too.
3. Super Mario World: The first Mario game on the system. It's currently my favorite 2D entry in the series, as it's not frustratingly difficult like SMB3. This is the one that introduced Yoshi, and he's used quite well here.
2. Super Mario All-Stars: A compilation of SMB, SMB 2 Japan, SMB 2 US, and SMB 3. If you bought the special edition, it also included SMW. This is my favorite way to play the NES SMB games, as it improved the graphics to SNES quality and added saving. I think I've spent more time playing this game than anything else on the SNES.
1. Earthbound: My personal favorite so far. Great music, simplistic yet great looking all the same regular visuals, awesome graphics (in the battle scenes), and so many different, wonderful sounding music tracks. Besides, how could anyone not love a game with New Age Retro Hippies as an enemy? Or a boss who can be incapacitated with fly honey (honey, but made by flies)? As expensive as it is, it's worth the cost. This game makes me wish so bad that Nintendo would make an English release of Mother 1 and 3.
I'd have Kirby Superstar Saga and Chrono Trigger on that list, except that I'm only including games I've played. I love both of those games, but I've only ever played them on DS.

Re: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary
Sounds good to me:
Got an SNES for Christmas when I was like 5 years old when we were living in Tennessee, I think in 1993-1994. Before then, I had played a bit of Link to the Past at some of my parents friend's houses off and on so I have faint memories of that. All of my friends at the time had the Genesis, so getting an SNES was a real treat and a pretty new experience. The first game I got with it was Donkey Kong Country. Can you imagine how mindblowing it was to me and my friends? Those were the best graphics I had ever seen up to that point. I remember getting to the 4th snow world on the first day I got the system, haha.
The rest is kind of history from there, but there's still a lot of great memories to bring up. The SNES was the first console my dad really started to play along with as well, which I've mentioned in other topics before. Some of the games him and his friends liked have been some of my long time favorites that age wondrously. Lemmings, The Lost Vikings, Flashback, Out of this World, Earthworm Jim, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, and some others. I also remember renting and beating Actraiser once, but this was back when I could barely read... so my dad read the game while I played it, lol. Wonder how he felt about that since back then he was a religious zealot and that game (typical of old Enix) is filled with religious themes and whatnot.
Same deal with Mario is Missing, one of my friends a year older than me was able to read most of the game while I played it and we both finished it.
Starfox was a mindblowing game as well. That one just rocked my world back then and still has one of the coolest most unique soundtracks out there I'd say.
Super Mario RPG I got one year a few years later which would be my first JRPG and started the fury. At the time, I had no idea what I was doing and looking back at it, I have no idea how I finished the game. Granted, it's not hard at all... but for those of you who have played it, I got the "See Ya" item that let's you run from battles every single time, so I didn't grasp the concept of exp or whatnot at all back then. What stat to pick to level up every single time? HP. HP was the biggest number, I figured it was no doubt the best thing to level up. Somehow, I still beat the game by never fighting through half the thing, and only leveling up HP.
Back in the days before the internet was really easy to access and we all rented games, you guys ever have "that game" you rented once or twice that was amazing, but you'd forget about it until like 10 years later? That was Super Turrican for me. It wasn't until several years ago when I re-discovered the franchise, ended up loving the games again, re-living my old experiences (this one I did play in Tennessee back then as well), and I ended up getting obsessed with Chris Hulsebeck's music.
Good times. The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. That is the SNES.
*tunes into some Super Turrican music*

Re: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary
My earliest Super Nintendo memory goes back to '94 when I was only 3 yrs old. My cousin had just gotten Super Metroid and was obsessed with it. Whenever the both of us were at my grandmother's house together, he would plug a second controller in while playing, hand it to me and say, "Here, you can play the bad guys." We'd play for hours that way.
It's funny to me that I fell for this trick, seeing as I already had a toploader NES at home w/ Super Mario Bros 3, Kirby's Adventure and TMNT. Just goes to show how naive a kid really can be at that age.
To this day, the SNES remains my favorite console, only the Dreamcast comes close in my eyes. There are just so many timeless classics, including some of the greatest RPG's of all time.
So yeah, Happy B-Day SNES.

Re: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary
Ahh, the SNES.
I had worked hard saving up and sometime before launch I had it fully paid off (maybe only a few months in advance). Since I grew up in a small town, I had to beg my parents for a ride about 40 miles from home to a big retailer that actually did reservations, and they weren't too thrilled about having to go there several times for whatever reason. Strange as this was the retailer in which we always bought our electronics and they liked going, so I guess they just didn't like going for games.
I had I prepaid/bought the SNES set, F-Zero, & Pilotwings; all games that the game magazines of the time were raving about on the SFC. As the time for the launch date grew close, I don't remember what I did but, I got grounded and they weren't going to take me to get my SNES on launch date as I was still grounded on that date.
I recall seeing the same bus go through town as would pass in front of the store but, I was determined to go there by myself even though CA has a really crappy bus system. I rode my bike down to the bus depot and asked a driver on smoke-break how to get there. I recall being chuckled at as I would need to do about 4 transfers to get there and would take about 2 hours, 1-way (this only took about 30 minutes driving directly).
So with my bus route planned out, my trusty backpack (I seriously thought that the SNES box would fit in there haha), I went out my gaming trek. When I got there I was ready for lunch but I was way too excited to eat; I probably ran towards the store instead of going to get a burger. I got my SNES and games and it felt like I achieved something for that long journey. Then I finally got something to eat as the bus wasn't going to come by again for another 40 minutes or some long time like that.
Got the bus, went back to town, took the local bus home, and when I finally got home I was dead tired. But after getting in the door in the mid-afternoon, I got my second wind and bolted towards my TV. I think I played until I went to sleep that night and again as soon as I woke up the next morning.
About another week or so after the launch date my grounding had finished and my parents asked me if I wanted to go get my SNES and like the genius I am, I said that I had already had it. I was interrogated how I got it and then I got grounded again for taking the "dangerous bus". I don't recall losing the SNES being grounded again or maybe I just blanked it out.
Well for the rest of summer break, my friends were gaming over at my house as I was the only one to get the system and after playing it like crazy, the next game I got was Actraiser and like the original 3, I still love that one too.

Re: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary
My brother and I had to combine our allowance to buy the super set with Mario World that year. We were so excited to get one! The earliest games we bought (besides Super Mario World) were Bubsy, Joe & Mac, and Harley's Humongous Adventure. Not the best choices, but that's kids for ya! Also we were limited to what was available at the local used shops. After we started earning our own income to buy new games, we built up quite an enviable library.

The nice thing about Racketboy is, that this thread will still be here and open 5 years from now, and you can post in it then.YoshiEgg25 wrote:I got my first SNES two days ago. I've yet to make any memories of it.
