List of Neo Geo Ports and Compilations

Since playing Neo Geo games on original hardware can involve tolerating high prices or slow loading times I'm trying to put together a list of ports and compilations for those wanting to enjoy Neo Geo games legally without owning the hardware. This is for games that have only appeared on the MVS or AES systems so there won't be any KoFXI or Metal Slug 6. Very good list. I think I did a similar check manually last year and confirmed a large portion of the Neo Geo library can be played without owning the actual hardware. Will check to see if I can find my post.

Basically by my math at the time you could play roughly 45% of the Neo Geo library without getting a console. There have been some more digital download releases since then so its gotta be up over half now. That's not too bad. I wish the Turbo Grafx/PC Engine had as many compilations.

notes:
-The original KoF 94 is included in the KoF 94 Re-Bout remake.
-The US KoF Collection (KoF 94/95/96/97/98) is completely different than the Japanese KoF Orochi Collection (KoF 95/96/97). The Japanese game is missing KoF 94/98, but it is a better overall package with all game modes intact, the choice between original and arranged soundtracks, and color edit mode. The US game only has arcade and training modes, and has some slowdown issues (particularly on KoF 98).
-KoF Nests Collection includes both the Neo Geo and Dreamcast versions of KoF 99/2000/2001, all on one disc. As with the Japanese KoF Orochi Collection, all game modes are intact, has original/arranged soundtracks, and color edit.

-In 2009, SNK released two massive box sets on the PS2 called NeoGeo Online Collection Complete Box (Joukan and Gekkan). Each set contains 6 of the PS2 compilations.

Between the two box sets, you get ALL of the NeoGeo Online Collection compilations that were released on the PS2 (ADK Tamashii was not part of the NeoGeo Online Collection). The first prints also included miniature reproductions of the MVS title cards. They're my favorite sets on PS2.

IMO, the Japanese PS2 is the best choice for inexpensive NeoGeo gaming. The selection is massive, the compilations are arcade-perfect and have bonus features. It has the definitive versions of all the KoF games up to KoF 2002. You can even buy reproduction NeoGeo CD pad and NeoGeo stick for PS2.
