Gamestop photographing your license?

Post by Retrozoa »

So, I just traded in a old copy of infected today that I got for free. The gamestop clerk said it would be $1.50, which is what I expected, then he asked for my driver's license, photographed it, then photographed me. For a $1.50 game. Keep in mind how ridiculous this is considering they already have a security camera.

This is in northern illinois, but has this happened to anybody else? I'm pretty sure this violates privacy laws by photographing my license.
Current systems: Atari 2600[x2], NES(top loader), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, PS2 slim, xbox, xbox 360, Turbografx-16, Game Boy Pocket, Game boy SP[x2], Nintendo DS[x2], Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo MVS.

They took a picture of your license and of you?

Did you at least pose appropriately?

Isn't it enough that they have you on the security camera and have your name/address if you have a reward card?

I didn't have to do this when I traded something in.

No photo needed here either. Maybe a local Pawnshop law enforced by the city? One city in the county I live in requires a thirty day hold on all used consoles taken in before a resell. Gamestop has tags on all used consoles with a okay to sell date, required by the city.

Even if it doesnt, considering the information on your license this is very sketchy.

That sort of stuff is the main reason I go elsewhere when I want to trade in used games. I don't think that Gamestop needs my email address, phone number, street address, name, and age when I trade something in. Just about the only things I don't get asked are my weight, height, and social security number. The other game stores I go to don't ask me anything at all.

I have had my license photocopied, its not that big of a deal, I am pretty sure they have to by law because of there second hand dealer license, however with games, it would be pretty hard to track them down if they were stolen.
