I know there's at least some failure that causes a total lack of A/V, but I've never heard of period blanking of the A/V. Best to look it up now before something gets worse. Good luck!
In my case it's video only. Audio keeps on going just fine. As it manifested on my Slim brand new out of the box, I doubt it's an early sign of hardware failure. I thought along the same lines when I first saw it happen, but after testing and seeing it on a brand new console too...kinda leaning away from that.

As suggested, my theory is more along the lines of HDCP handshaking or the like.

...and I too already had a 360 when I got the PS3. Which has worked flawlessly...albeit without the exclusives and Blu-ray playback I got the PS3 for

It does sound like a sync issue. The monoprice branded cabled is unlikely to be the issue. I guess if you wanted to be double sure you could buy the Hi Speed cable, which I think it required for full 1080p compatibility.

Oh does that play Blu-ray movies now? Good to know. That's usually when the PS3 would cut out, very rarely during games (and if it did it during a game, it was usually during the initial loading sequence).

Unfortunately my 360 still works. I was hoping that the latest firmware update would brick it so MS would swap it out with one of those new HDMI models, but noooo, it had to keep working, damn thing.

@OP, have you tried connecting your PS3 to a different TV to see if you have the same issue? What brand/model is the TV? What are the specs?
