My Pokemon Red keeps crashing and I need to clean the Gameboy itself. How do I do this?
I need to clean the part that reads games.

Re: Gameboy Advance original help.
You will want to clean both. If one is dirty and you've been putting them together, then they're both dirty now. You can cut some clean food box cardboard to match the width of the board you can see in the end of the cart. So it should be able to slide it in the end of the cart too. Make it double or triple thick so it about matches the thickness of the contact and shell there for the bottom opening of the cart. Make sure to take batteries out of the GBA.
Dampen the business end of the cardboard with contact cleaner (preferable) or rubbing alcohol (works in a pinch) and carefully plug/unplug it several times, pushing the cardboard where the contacts of the cart would be going. Do this slowly and carefully so you don't snag something. Let it dry for a while before you power up and try it out.

Ugh no. Trying to get it on the pins in the system would be a nightmare anyway. Regardless of one's opinions on using it in carts (per an earlier disagreement on the forum and I think it is a bad idea) trying to put some paste-like liquid in the tiny recesses of a cart socket is a terrible idea as you'll never get all of the residue out.Bn4 wrote:Try Brasso.

Brasso is a metal polish, not cleaner. That's 100% reason NOT to use it.

I'm sure it's jackassery... Brasso seems to be making the rounds on RB for some reason.Ziggy587 wrote:Brasso is a metal polish, not cleaner. That's 100% reason NOT to use it.

Re: Gameboy Advance original help.
To clean that cart slot, I would not use cardboard. Instead I use an old credit card cut to width. Cover it with a piece of cloth and dampen the cloth with alcohol. I would be afraid that the cardboard would either mush up to bad to be effective or would leave little pieces behind. As for not having an old credit card, you could use an old gift card that has no balance left.
