me too. I got a Saturn at the flea market for $10 but no games. I don't know where to start.

Ah, well your case is a bit different.

For you, I would ask if you could provide a favorite genre, budget, and sample of games from other systems that you like. From there, I could recommend what games might be on your watch list. It's either that or I spam you a list of all the Saturn games I think are awesome, but can cost well over $100, require an region-free key, use added accessories, or are just plain be in a language you may not be able to read.

I try to keep my game purchases to $20 or less. I LOVE the Sonic series and Fantasy type RPG. My kids like the first person shooter games.

Hm. Saturn gaming, in the long run, may not be for you. (Most AAA-titles and RPGs are expensive, require accessories, are imports, or all of the above. There is an overall lack of Sonic on the system. Some FPS games may not be suitable for audiences under 14.)

In the short run, you've got 2D platformer Astal and a quirky 2D game called Three Dirty Dwarves that... well, YouTube will do it more justice than my words can describe. Each for about $15. NiGHTs into Dreams is a 3D "platformer" that runs about the same price, but you may also want to invest in the $30 analog controller as well.

FPS games like Duke Nukem, Quake, Exhumed (Powerslave) (bonus Tank game included in Duke 3D if you can unlock it) work well alongside rail shooters like the Panzer Dragoon titles. Not to mention light-gun games like Virtua Cop if you own a CRT. First-person 3D fighter Virtual On works fairly well on a controller if you don't feel like buying the giant twinstick (dual joystick) setup.

Shining The Holy Ark is perhaps the most affordable quality Fantasy RPG on the system that's in English; at $25 for a disc-only copy of this first-person dungeon crawler with great soundtrack.

I know, a bit extreme, but I figured if I got those out of the way early, the rest of the collecting would be smooth sailing.

And to be honest, those 3 games compliment each other so well, while being completely different (err... as different as vert-scrolling shmups can be)

Batsugun is next on my list, but I'm planning on picking up some of the smaller titles that I really should have by now (Nights especially)

However, if you aren't sure you like shmups, I would avoid Garegga and Radiant, as they are considered fairly extreme for the genre, which at that point, was already getting fairly extreme. Not to mention, they are pretty damn pricey.

However, if you find you have caught the shmup bug like I recently have, they are absolute musts, and excellent Saturn-exclusive ports.

Dude, get blast wind. And gunbird. Two of my favorite shooters on the system.gunbird can be had relatively cheap. The layer section games are nice as well.

Then there's hyper duel, which rules, but is really pricey.

Not if he buys a lot of cheap Japanese games. The average prices for each would be way under $20. He's have a collection of 2D fighters, Puzzle games and some platformers that way. Maybe even a shooter or two. He could have fantasy RPGs, but they'd be in Japanese.

I've had my eye on Blast Wind, but only ever heard negative things about it. Being a technosoft fan, I'm glad to hear it has fans. I'll have to look into that.

I almost bought Gunbird last night, but alreasy having the shoddy MLF port made me go for Gunbird 2 instead.

I did add 2 more shooters to the library: Donpachi and Sonic Wings Special.
