Was it a Phoenix Wright game?

The original release of Soul Calibur III on the PS2 legitimately corrupted one's memory card. That's pretty creative, no? To legitimately piss off your fanbase. Ono ain't got nothing on that kind of trolling.

Metal Gear Solid 2... when you're naked Raiden and the Col. goes bat shit insane. I don't know if I ever continued playing after that.

Metal Gear Solid came to mind for me as well.

The Psycho Mantis fight, as well as the classic "look on the back of the cd case" were the two situations that came to mind.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I love when First Person games model private perception.

In Half-Life 2, when a grenade goes off you hear a ringing in your ears and all other noise is muffled.

When your sanity slips away in Amnesia: The Dark Descent, your vision blurs and there is a crackling in your ears, plus you see bugs crawling around that aren't there.

In Mirror's Edge when you walk out into the light your vision is blurred with white glow before your eyes adjust

In Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth your madness leads to contorted visual perception and voices whispering in your head.

the Silent Hill games would often have strange sound effects and whatnot that were there for no reason other than to make you paranoid.

see: the heavy muffled breathing sound in one of the empty hallways in the apartment building in 2, etc.

Both the Another Code games featured a lot of puzzles based around the idea of using the hardware in an unorthodox way to solve them.
