I really like RE0, I never understood the "hate" either. I think it's great.
But I guess people who said 'it's more of the same' are kind of correct. When RE4 came out, the series was in need of a revamp. I do think the criticisms are a little harsh though, the controlling 2 characters thing did add an extra dimension as such to the game, and gave some of the puzzles an extra twist.
Whilst we're on it, I also didn't understand any hate for Code Veronica either. That's one of my favourites in the series.

I didn't care much for the enemy design in Code Veronica, which was my main complaint. There were also a few characters I wasn't thrilled with, but that's just me. As far as gameplay was concerned, it was classic Resident Evil.Reprise wrote:Whilst we're on it, I also didn't understand any hate for Code Veronica either. That's one of my favourites in the series.

Yeah, I can understand your criticisms. I suppose my main love for Code Veronica stems from nostalgia coupled with the fact it was the first Resident Evil game I actually completed. On top of that, it's one of the harder ones in the series (imo), so I was was fairly proud of myself
Anyways, apologies, I've taken it a bit off topic there.

Don't worry about it, I can understand your pride in completing it. I was thrilled about beating it too, and it is probably the hardest of the original series(not counting the GC remake of the first, which is probably the hardest game in the old style series).Reprise wrote:Yeah, I can understand your criticisms. As for taking it off topic...nah, it's still relevant. You made a valid comparison of attitudes towards the series, which I did my best to clarify from my perspective. If anything, it's interesting to compare RE0 with its neighbor entries in the series.
Re: Why All The Hate On Resident Evil 0
I would certainly not say I "hate" Code Veronica, but it's probably my least favorite of the classic styled ones. Basically, I remember that one had by far the most backtracking. Hardly ever a complaint for me in games honestly, but it got to me in that one, especially when you had to go through half of the same stuff again as Chris.
That one definitely had some of the toughest puzzles though (I think I remember some weird painting puzzle room, not sure) and it was a good bit longer than the other RE's. Wesker outright punching Claire in the face was kind of hilarious too...
Didn't care too much for Steve either (degrading my name!) or the villains, and the setting (weaker atmosphere), as opposed to the other RE's.
So those are my legit complaints for it. But other than that, still a solid game and one I can see myself replaying.

I remember reading something about RE 1.5. Apparently there was the rom but the person who owns it keeps it to himself and the game itself has been come a myth/legend.Xeogred wrote:Uh, not really canceled but just bumped up to newer consoles I guess? I've seen some of the old screenshots though, pretty cool to look at. I thought it was dumped but yeah I guess not, I mistook it for some early Biohazard builds that were put up on Hidden-Palace.itsmattxp wrote:I remember reading something about RE 1.5. Here's a video though, you've probably already seen it:
