To me, it looks like the wire got ripped from one solder point however, I don't know if both should be connected. Also the wire definitely looks frayed.

Do you have a macro mode so we can see a clearer picture? If not, set on highest resolution you can and take the picture far enough away that it isn't blurry, probably at least 2 or 3 feet. Then just crop to the headphone bit. Or heck, if you have a scanner, plop it on that since that will do a short focus.
