Best Co-Op retro games?

Hey guys, I gave a few quick searches for more retro co-op games to play with my wife, but came up blank. Can anyone recommend any 2-player co-op games for the following systems?:

NES
Genesis
Snes
N64
Playstation (1,2,3)
Xbox (orig and 360)

I'm mainly looking for games where both players play at the same time rather than take turns, and also where the players work together rather than fight each other. Competitive games are fine, but playing together is what I'm trying to achieve.

In terms of beat-em-ups, if you don't mind emulating on any of these systems, you can't go wrong with the Simpsons Arcade Game. My whole family can really get into this one, even if they usually never play games in general.

I second Contra as well, and good luck with beating Battletoads on co-op.

Edit: the Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES have co-op, though I don't remember if you can play at the same time or not.
