As a Wii-lover...

I think motion control works best when developers don't overestimate the precision of the technology, and use it moreso in rhythm with standard controls. They should be reserved for simple tasks like aiming a gun, swinging a tennis racket, or selecting a Pikmin, until the technology is mastered.

For instance, I really liked the combat in No More Heroes where you used the A button to swing and the motion controls to raise or lower your weapon. On the other hand, I hated MadWorld where you had to swing around like a loon to chop baddies to bits with your chainsaw.

I also gave up 5 mins into Okami (Wii) because I couldn't manage to write the symbols correctly. A classic controller option really would have been nice so that I could play the game how it was intended to be played.

Super Mario Galaxy is another good example of well applied motion control in small doses.

Well put.

I have Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions for the Wii and wish it had classic controller support. I don't have any other modern console than the Wii so when I wanted to play the game closest to Arkham Asylum I find myself getting frustrated with the controls. I hate holding the Wiimote up while pressing A for a slow/strong attack since I usually hold it pointed up. I hate flailing my arms to do stealth attacks and different powered punches.

The motion controls work well for games that are developed for it not games who's developers feel that since its on the Wii all users expect flailing.
Also the point about small doses works too. In the three main Mario games (Galaxy 1/2 and New Super) the shaking of the controller isn't intrusive.

I think the best implementation of the Wiimote has to be Metriod: Other M. Many hate the game because of the story but it uses both classic controls and motion pointing perfectly.
