I just modified my Atari 7800 for s-video using this mod
http://atari7800.org/7800mod/7800_mod.htm
At first this mod was very dark so I reworked a few of the components to be similar to GamesX Atari 5200 svid mod (which for the luma is nearly identical). This fixed the problem for the most part on 7800 games. They're still slightly darker. But 2600 games are nearly black. The trees in Pitfall are all black. Pitfall Harry is green, and the background is green, but the underground can barely be seen. Tried Kaboom, I can see the colors just fine but they're all very dark. I've racked my brain for a week trying to finish this mod, but I can't see to figure out why its not bright enough.
Atari 7800 s-video mod dim issue
Re: Atari 7800 s-video mod dim issue
I fixed the issue by using this mod instead: http://saundby.com/atari7800mod/7800_vi ... ction.html
I didn't want to use his mod at first because it requires the use of potentiometer, and I didn't like the idea of having to adjust the circuit. The rest of the circuit is the same. Unfortunately I could not get the other mod to be bright enough, which is discouraging because its supposed to use Atari's own resistor ladder, and its the commonly accepted way to modify a 2600 and 5200 for s-video as well.
