I was happily playing Game Boy Color games on the SP thus far until I found my old Game Boy Color recently, so I decided to pop a game in there for old time's sake. Turns out I MUCH prefer the buttons and D-pad on the old Game Boy Color versus the GBA SP; in comparison the SP is 'clicky' and stiff.
IMO, the differences to me are:
With the SP: Clearer picture thanks to a back-lit screen and better sound reproduction
With the GBC: More comfortable buttons for control, no letter-boxing, and nostalgic value
I would choose the GBC by far IF it had a back-lit screen... I would even give up better sound quality for that. But for now, looks like SP it is.
So what handheld do you all prefer playing GB/GBC games on?

I don't have a GBC so I've been playing mostly on my PSP (using MasterBoy) because of save states. Otherwise, I play them on the GBA SP. I've had no issues with buttons for both systems.

if we're talking physical carts, then the GameCube Game Boy Player is by far my chosen method. If I have to emulate something, then the PSP's Master Boy emulator is fantastic.

I like the SP more, but all I have right now is an Advance. The back-lit screen makes a world of difference. To be fair though, I also use the Gameboy Player for virtually all of my Gameboy games at this point.

The order I'd choose is: GBA SP+ > GB Player > GBC. I love the Sp+'s backlight. It gives so much better a picture than any other model of Game Boy.

I use the original model GBA (modded with a light), because it's my favourite and most comfortable layout of the GBA models. That or the PSP w/MasterBoy (hey look, they have the same physical layout..hmmmmm..)

Hm.
I really liked the GBclassic in terms of sheer bulk the thing gave my hands. With the HandyBoy by InterAct or the Arcade by NAKI, I could actually set the thing down and listen to the awesome stereo speakers.
Unfortunately, if portability becomes an issue, then I would say go for the GBSP or what I use is a Rockbox'd SANSA MP3 player. It is comparable to a GBA Micro and plays GB games at 60fps (GBC games at 20fps).

I play my GB/GBC games on my GBC. Emulator wise, I use Lemonboy on my GP2X Wiz or Lameboy on DS.

If I'm at home, the Game Boy Player would be best. Otherwise I'd use a GBA SP with backlight.

In direct sunlight out in the garden or on my "gaming sofa" in summer days: GBC!
At night and in all non bright outside light circumstances: GBA SP
and when on holidays / away from home: emulation on the Dingoo
I still have all my GB and GBC cartridges in a well sized box, so I play them often
, often meaning, several times a week. It´s a different feeling and the GBC is indeed my favourite non-light handheld gaming console, and I usually have no AAA cells for the Pocket, so the GBC is so much better than the GB classic.
Only the first Super Mario Lands I always want to play on he GB classic

Nintendo GB, GBA SP, DS phat, GBA, GB Color, GB Micro, DS lite, GB Pocket, GBA SP Tribal, Atari Lynx since 09/2010, Sega Game Gear since 01/11, Neo Geo Poket Color since 05/11
